John W. Dawson Jr., age 97, passed away peacefully at Friendship Village of Columbus Thursday, August 24, 2017. Born in Columbus, John was a graduate of North High School and a 1942 graduate of The Ohio State University. Upon graduation he left for military officers training. As a WWII veteran he continued his military service in the Army Reserves after the war with two weeks active duty each year and taught class at Fort Hayes once a week for 20 years. He retired from the Army Reserves as a Lt. Colonel. After returning from the war he worked with his dad and uncle at Young’s Dairy in Linden. After a few years he had the opportunity to become an insurance company representative for a local insurance company. Eight years later he bought a small insurance agency and founded the John W. Dawson Insurance Agency. He grew the agency withn his staff and son who joined him in 1966 and did not retire until 2000 at the age of 80. He was a faithful member of the Linden Heights Methodist Church as well as a member of different civic associations such as the Minerva Park Civic Association and the North East Kiwanis where he also served as the President for a number of years. Preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Mae Dawson. Survived by son, John W. Dawson III and his wife Ellen; grandchildren, Daniel and Christina Dawson; daughter, Linda Bates and son-in-law, Roland Bates, as well as many cousins. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, August 27th at MORELAND FUNERAL HOME 55 East Schrock Road, Westerville where a service will be held Monday, August 28th at 1:30 p.m., Dr. David Hogg, officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Food and fellowship will follow at the MCL Cafeteria in Westerville after the interment.

God bless you and your family at this difficult time. He was a very good person.He was our insurance man from on 1958 on, we had just bought are first home and moved to the Linden area. I,m still with the agency. Virginia Tomolillo
