James Michael Goebeler Sr., 68, of Westerville, Ohio passed away on May 25, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 15, 1957, in Teaneck, New Jersey, to the late Edward and Shirley Goebeler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Christine Ann (Goebeler) Ryan, and his son, Benjamin Charles Goebeler.
James - affectionately known to friends and family as Jim - graduated from and met the love of his life, Sandra, at Northern Valley Regional High School in Bergen County, New Jersey. He attended and graduated from Fairfield University in Connecticut and later earned his MBA from Capital University in Ohio. Jim spent his professional life as an office supply salesman working for BIC and later for Service Wholesale. Jim was adored by his customers, frequently growing friendships and spending time with them outside of work.
Family was the center of Jim’s life. You could always find him supporting his kids and grandkids with home projects, life lessons, and on the sidelines of all sporting events. No matter the task, big or small, he was always happy to help with a smile and a hug. He loved walking his numerous dogs over the years, most recently Max through the woods, watching documentaries about aliens, roaming the aisles at Meijer searching for a good deal, and randomly delivering goodies like pineapples, whole hams, and cupcakes to his family members. He lived a Christian, faith based life and was a scholar of the Bible in many ways. He was married to his soulmate for nearly 50 years and adored her endlessly. Together, they built an inspirational marriage forged in love, trust, honesty, and unwavering dedication to one another.
Jim will be remembered as a determined, loyal, honest, loving man who was full of pride for his family. He was a trustworthy and dependable husband, father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor who was deeply loved by many.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Haynes) Goebeler; sons James Goebeler Jr., and Larry (Shannon) Goebeler; grandchildren, Layla, Tyler, Grady, Grayson, and Amelia Goebeler; sister, Kathy (Paul) McNulty; brother, Ned (Teresa) Goebeler. He will also be missed by his numerous extended family, close family friends, neighbors, and many others.
To honor Jim, Visitation will be held Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Moreland Funeral Home at 55 E. Schrock Road, Westerville, Ohio, with funeral services immediately following at 5:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or ALS.
Condolences
Michael and Marilyn Colvin - Jun 15, 2026
Our great friend Jim was the ambassador of joy in the neighborhood. Countless times I or Marilyn heard him call from across the way, often ending in a long conversation and sometimes a few laughs at his backyard fence. Meeting Jim as he walked the dog was a welcome encounter always. Sadly, that came less often because of Jim's orthopedic misfortunes. Among favorite memories are Jim and Sandra on our front porch sipping some of my garden raspberry-infused vodka while I carried on a conversation with the barred owl in our neighbor's oak tree. Our oldest grandchild Kaylee and husband Peter had moved next door to Sandra and Jim and what good fortune to have them as neighbors. It was awful to learn of Jim's terrible illness that took him so fast. We are heartbroken ourselves and wish abiding love, memories and healing for Sandra and the Goebeler family. Love and Sympathy, Mike and Marilyn Colvin
