William “Bill” W. Burby, 81, beloved husband, father, grandpa and friend went home into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday morning, December 18, 2017. He had been receiving treatment at the Cleveland Clinic. He was born February 21, 1936 in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from Youngstown College in 1959. On January 30, 1960 he married Joan (Voorhies) and together they raised four children. Bill came to know his Savior Jesus Christ in 1974. It is then he understood that Jesus loved him and had died for his sins. Bill’s greatest desire was that others would know Jesus by believing He died for them, confessing their sin, and committing their life to Him. He served in different roles at Grace Polaris Church including as Superintendent of Worthington Christian Schools for seven years, and as a Pastor for 27 years until he retired in 2007. Bill was a Westerville resident since 1964 (53 years) who enjoyed fishing, photography, Bible studies, reading, history and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Joan; and his children, Rick (Susan) Burby, Tracy (John) Rettstatt, Kelly Burby, and Kary (Jim) Barnes; sister, Mary Lou (Joe) Reda; and grandchildren, Will (Ana) Burby, Ethan Burby, John, Jacob and Bridgette Rettstatt, Audrey (Andrew) Rickly, Eddie and Mackenzie Barnes. He is preceded in death by his parents, William W. Burby, Sr. and Dolna (Bennett) Burby, sister, Barbara Schurman, and brother, Vincent, and granddaughter, Anne Marie. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held 12:00 p.m. at the Worship Center at Grace Polaris Church, 8225 Worthington Galena Road, Westerville, Ohio on December 27 with visitation 2 hours prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace Polaris Church or Worthington Christian School.

Condolences

Duke/Wanda Heller - Dec 22, 2017

Bill was a fellow Elder for years at Polaris GBC. We had many ministries together before his many illnesses. Bill will be welcomed by Jesus for his many years of service and dedication to Christ. I have enjoyed praying for Bill and his family for many years. Bill was a fighter.
