MAHAFFEY


Wayne T. Mahaffey, 77 of Westerville, passed away on Sunday October 30, 2011 after a lengthy illness. Born in Marion, Ohio. He graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1952. Beloved husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by wife of 54 years, Diana Mahaffey. Also survived by daughter Susan Mahaffey of the home. Daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and David Gotschall and granddaughter Hannah Gotshall of Columbus. He is survived by sister-in-law and brother-in-law Judy & Jim Anspaugh of Arizona; sisters Virginia Myers of Newark, Ohio, Esther Belle Cottrill, Iona Shipman and Ruth Campbell all of Marion, Ohio; special niece Barbara Donaugh Kling of Michigan and Florida; numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends. Wayne was a lifetime Boy Scout, receiving one the highest awards, The Silver Beaver. He was involved with the Boy Scouts for 68 years, serving in many capacities. He was involoved in many committees for the Boy Scout organization. He was also a member of the Order of the Arrow. Wayne served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1957-1959. He was a member of Sunrise Masonic Lodge #783. He was raised a Master Mason on March 20, 1990, was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus and past Lodge Secretary. He received the Daniel Carter Beard Masonic Scouter Award in August 2005. Also a member of Central College Presbyterian Church. He was retired from the Defense Construction Supply Center after 40 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents Victor & Maude Mahaffey, brothers Carl Mahaffey, Robert Mahaffey and Henry Mahaffey; sisters Helen Andrews, Glenna Mae Davis, Martha Mahaffey and Betty Mahaffey; mother-in-law and father-in-law Jane Jones Miller and L. Burdette Jones. Special thanks to all of the doctors and nurses and hospice workers that we encountered throughout Wayne’s illness. More special thanks to nurse and friend Amy Taylor, nurse and former Boy Scout Brian Peffly and the Reverend David Redding of Central College Presbyterian Church. A memorial and Masonic service will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Central College Presbyterian Church. A reception will be held in Ballard Hall immediately following. Arrangements by the MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, Westerville, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, it was Wayne’s wish that donations be made to Boy Scout Troop 192 c/o Central College Presbyterian Church, 975 South Sunbury Road, Westerville, Ohio 43081.
