Vickie Buchanan

Vickie Lee (Johnson) Buchanan, 64 of Westerville, transitioned peacefully to Heaven at home on September 25th, 2021, after a courageous 10 month battle with pancreatic & liver cancer.

Born in Columbus on September 27th, 1956, Vickie was preceded in death by her parents, Russell M. & Ida (Legg) Johnson and her grandparents Herbert & Elsie Legg.

Vickie is survived by her loving husband of 39 years Rodney (Rod) Buchanan, and her beloved dog Charlie, her brothers Russell M. (Rusty) Johnson (Laura) of Brooksville, Florida; Herbert R. (Herb) Johnson (Shirley) of Fredericktown, OH; and sister Lori J. Evans of Southlake, Texas and brother-in-law Gary Buchanan, of Lancaster, OH.. She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.

Vickie attended Brookhaven H.S. (’74), Franklin University, and the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) and was a Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), whose long work career included employment stints at Mac Tools (17); Northstar Technologies (4);Franklin University (3), The CBC Companies(6) and Central Ohio Transport -COTA (7). Vickie was a hard working and dedicated employee and wanted to thank & acknowledge all her co-workers at these companies for their help, support, friendship, and comradery.

Vickie enjoyed all types of crafts and became a skilled quilter making beautiful memory quilts, bags, & table runners. She then became a long-arm quilter, providing other quilters with beautiful finished professional looking quilts. In 2019, Vickie became a volunteer long-arm quilter for the Quilts of Valor organization(QOV) doing finished quilts that are donated to veterans of all military era’s. In 2020, she completed the long-arming of 20 QOV quilts delivered to veterans. She also made a quilt for Rod’s RHS Class of 1970 Reunion’s Silent Auction, which is now inducted and on display at the Reynoldsburg Truro Township Historical Society Museum in Reynoldsburg, OH.

Vickie was so lucky to have such great and supportive quilting friends, especially Barb, Beth, Jane Pat and Carol. These ladies have also been so very supportive during her cancer battle. In addition, Vickie would like to thank the oncology team at OSU/The James, including the nurse practitioners, her oncologist, and the Infusion Center team of nurses and technicians, who made chemo be the best experience possible. We also want to recognize the entire College Park sub- division families, for all the help and support they have provided to Vickie and Rod during these challenging times. They are a special group of neighbors providing meals and offering anything necessary to make life easier during the many cancer treatments Vickie had to endure.

We also pay tribute to all the wonderful hospice nurses from Heartland Hospice, for their dedicated and loving care, who responded when ever needed, and were there during Vickie’s transition. Also, special thanks to Father Jonathan Wilson, Pastor at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Westerville, for his personal visits to our home, especially his blessings the evening Vickie started her transition to Heaven, In addition, thanks go to St. Paul Church volunteers John and Kellie, who came to the house on numerous occasions to provide prayer and Communion.

Vickie will be dearly missed by all and forever in our hearts. Family and friends may attend visiting hours from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, October 4th at MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 Schrock Road, Westerville, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Jonathan Wilson on Tuesday, October 5th at 10:30 a.m. at St Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 313 N. State Street, Westerville, followed by a graveside service at Blendon Central Cemetery for family members only.
