A Celebration of Life will be held in Westerville, OH and Washburn, ND in the future

Thomas L. Rothmann, 56, was born August 29,1967 in Bismarck, ND to Lowell and Karen (Rodgers) Rothmann. Surrounded by family and friends, Tom passed on January 27, 2024 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH after a short but valiant fight with pancreatic cancer. His first seven years were spent in Bottineau, ND. In 1975 the family relocated to Washburn, ND. Tom spent the rest of his youth growing up in Washburn. He was a 1985 graduate of Washburn High School where he was a very skilled athlete participating in football, basketball, and baseball. His love for Washburn never wavered and felt it was the perfect place for children to grow up. His college days found him at Minot State University and Mayville State University, where he had a very successful baseball career. Upon graduation from Mayville State University, he pursued a master's degree in Sports Management from Minnesota State University Mankato. He began his career with the Frappier Acceleration Training Center in Fargo, ND. His role of marketing and assisting with initial setups of Acceleration Training Programs throughout the country led him to Columbus, OH. Shortly after relocating to Columbus, he was introduced to Nicky Heilmann. She quickly became the love of his life, and they were married on March 6, 1999. They were blessed with two children, Nicholas and Alison, who were the apples of Tom's eye. He was an active participant in as many of his children's athletic adventures as time allowed.

For the last 25 years, Tom worked in the pharmaceutical industry. The majority of his time was spent in the oncology arena for Schering Plough and Genentech. Most recently, Tom worked for Novartis in the cardiovascular sector, where he was an Associate Director of Systems Access and Reimbursement. Tom worked until his very last day, always trying to provide the best outcome for his customers. He is survived by his wife Nicky, son Nicholas of Dayton, OH, daughter Alison of Westerville, OH, his parents Lowell and Karen Rothmann of Washburn, ND, sister Trisha (John) Getz and children Kylie and Talon of Dickinson, ND, Nicky's parents Richard and Beth Heilmann of South Dakota, brother-in-law Nathan (Christine) Heilmann and their children Morgan and Owen of Galena, OH, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. There will be a celebration of life for Tom in both Westerville, OH and Washburn, ND in the future. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations given in Toms memory to Rescued Ohio (www.rescuedohio.org) or the Humane Society of Delaware (www.hsdcohio.org). These two organizations brought Tom's favorite fur babies into his life, Max, Ruby, Ziggy, Spot and Dill.

Tom's Novartis Family - Feb 6, 2024

Dear Rothmann Family- thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences on your loss. This was tremendously shocking and sad news that came way too soon. Tom came to Novartis in 2020 and immediately made his mark and established himself as a trusted "go-to" for so many colleagues looking for information and solutions. In addition, Tom was a partner, confidant, teammate, and friend. He brought passion, enthusiasm, and energy to everything he did and everyone who shared his company. Gone way too soon and he will be greatly missed.

Terry Kemmer - Feb 4, 2024

Rothman Family: Tom & I met at Mayville State - Tom was a business student and I was a business professor. He took several classes from me, so a friendship developed. His goal was to develop a business foundation & he did! There were times that baseball got in the way, but I always knew he would come through in the end. We had a great visit at Coach Berry's retirement in early June. He was eager to share about all of you & his career. I have been truly blessed to watch Tom grow & develop as a business professional & a family man. Thoughts & prayers as you celebrate his earthly life & now his eternal life! Blessings to you . .

Bill & Val Strasser - Feb 2, 2024

Our condolences to your family. Tom comes from a wonderful family and although we only knew him for a few years when he was in Washburn, he was special. I recall watching him in a softball game playing 2nd base. He basically had most of the infield and outfield covered from there and we all marveled at his athleticism. Prayers are with the Rothmann’s during this difficult time.

Nancy Sneed - Feb 1, 2024

Dion Franklund - Feb 1, 2024

Words cannot express the shock I felt when I learned of Tom’s passing, even though we hadn’t seen each other since high school. My memories of Tom are centered around “shenanigans” that come with life in a small rural town and school, and of course our time together as teammates. I especially fondly remember 2-a day football practices my senior year and Tom’s junior year, a bunch of us would go over to his grandmother’s house after the morning practice and feast on her delicious caramel rolls. Tom was a special guy and I always knew he would succeed at anything he pursued, thanks to his wonderful parents. My condolences and prayers to his wife, children and family. May God strengthen you during your time of mourning.

Gail Stahura - Jan 31, 2024

Barbara and Frank Munafo - Jan 31, 2024

We were so shocked to hear about Tom. Our prayers are with Nicky, Nicholas and Alison. As a cancer victim myself Tom was blessed to not have endured the terrible pain of his cancer too long. God blessed him with not letting him suffer for a long time. His family suffers by his loss. He is in a much better place now. May God keep you all strong. Love you all Aunt Barb and Uncle Frank

Tim Thomas - Jan 30, 2024

Tom was a big part of our small high school when we were there. I will remember the good times on sports teams and in classes together. He truly was loyal to the town and school. A class act and I wish we could have stayed closer after school. He will be missed. I send prayers to his parents and sister.

James Nero - Jan 30, 2024

My condolences to the family...so young!! I had both of his parents as teachers in Bottineau.

Myrna Lyng - Jan 30, 2024

My husband, Merwin and I were privileged to enjoy TR's prowess as a baseball player for the Comets. Much later, when we happened to be in Columbus the same time as Scott Berry, we were delighted to spend time with the two of them. We were so impressed with Tom's professional acumen and his devotion to his work. He will be sorely missed. We hold you in our hearts.

Terry and LeaRae Espe - Jan 30, 2024

Our sincere sympathy to Tom's family and friends. I taught at Bottineau Public School with Karen and Louie Rothmann in the early 70s. My husband taught in a nearby town. Several of us young teacher couples hung out together after ballgames and weekends playing whist and socializing. Louie was the head basketball coach. We would see them occasionally after they moved to Washburn. This is so sad. So sorry.

Pam & Skip Oberg - Jan 30, 2024

To Nicky, Nick, Alison, and everyone who loved Tom; we share in your heartbreak. If you spent any amount of time with Tommy, you'd instantly know of his passion for his family, his hometown, and for the people he cherished. Tommy was one of a kind. You have our deepest sympathies. -Ray and Emily Bice Give your faith, your love, and your grief to God. "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10

Chris McGinnis - Jan 30, 2024

I am like everyone else here, at a complete loss of words for Nicky, Tom's children, his family and friends. All I can say is that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you while we process this tragedy. I was lucky to have the game of golf bring Tom and I together a couple years ago. His incredible personality immediately drew me in. Tom's gift for conversation is what I will always remember. I couldn't wait to see him this past summer in Columbus to hear what hilarity would ensue. As always, Tom didn't disappoint. Not sure when the sting from this one will wear off.

Heather Harvey - Jan 30, 2024

Tom was my eldest cousin on my mom’s side, and I grew up thinking he was bigger than life. He was an All American athlete, handsome and kind. As I grew up and naturally our lives went more and more their separate ways, my fondness for Tom never wavered and my admiration only grew. Tom was truly kind, and authentic in a way you don’t often see. He loved his children, wife, parents, sister and even extended family in a way we all usually only wish to be loved, we were blessed and we will never forget it. My life was truly better for having had Tom in it, as was the world at large, and his loss will be lasting. My deepest sympathies to Nicky, Nicholas, Allison, Louie, Karen, Trish and the dogs, the friends and of course the rest of us extended family. I love you always Tom. Your cousin, Heather

Steve Leidholm - Jan 30, 2024

To Nicky, Nick and Alison, words can't describe how much I feel for all three of you. He was one of the best people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. In his Obit it talked about how he treasured Washburn. Almost every week when we talked it would always center around two things, His wife and kids, and Washburn. He was so proud of all of you. Until we meet in Ohio, my best to all of you. Steve
