Sergei Alexandrovich Shatalov was born on April 1st, 1946 in Moscow Russia and passed away peacefully on May 21, 2024 at the age of 78 at his home in Westerville Ohio, surrounded by his family.

Sergei was a lifelong educator. Born and raised in the post-WW2 Soviet Union, in his youth he attended the prestigious MPTI university obtaining undergraduate and graduate degrees. After the defence of his dissertation on radio technology in 1974 he remained in academia, finding the teaching aspect of his profession particularly rewarding. In 1999, with his wife and son, Sergei relocated to Ohio, where he found employment as a high school teacher of math and science until his retirement. Through the years his thorough, innovative, and thoughtful approach to math education has provided a solid foundation for the advanced technical education of countless students both in Russia and Ohio.

Sergei is survived by his loving wife Elena; sister Galina; children and step-children Irina, Natalia, Maria, and Nikolay; grandchildren Anna, Liubov, Polina, Oliver, Stanislav, Julian, Lillian, and Agnes; great-grandchild Maxim. He was preceded in death by his first wife Lida, his parents Alexander and Galina, and his brother Yuri.

Sergei always maintained a perfectly tranquil and irreverent attitude, regardless of the challenges and strife surrounding him. He particularly enjoyed games of chance with his friends and family. Once when asked by his wife about considering relocation after retirement he replied: "I can not leave Ohio, my children and card partners live here!"

Memorial service will take place at Moreland Funeral Home in Westerville Ohio on Saturday the 25th at 3PM, with visitation beginning at 2PM.
