SOWERS (STRIDER)


Ruth Marlene Strider-Sowers passed away peacefully at the age of 81 at home on August 16, 2012. She was born at home in Galloway, Ohio on February 7, 1931. A wife and homemaker, she is preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 57 years, Lawrence ”Eldon” Sowers, her parents Frank and Ivadell Conway-Strider, brother Harold Strider and sister Hilda ”Jean” Strider-Baughman. Ruth is survived by her sons, Frank Sowers, Mike (Terri) Sowers; daughters Connie (Bob) Sowers-Kotula and Mary Sowers; granddaughters, Sarah (Jason) Kotula-Luthy, Angie Sowers, Bethany (Bobby) Kotula-Karl and Robyn Rader and great grandchildren, Samantha Chitwood and Theodore Luthy; also surviving Ruth are sisters Evelyn Johnson, Flora (Jim) Davis, Doris Strider and sister-in-law, Nancy Strider and many cousins, nieces, nephews and life-long friends. A 10 year Breast Cancer Survivor she is remembered by her neighbors for selling her fresh vegetables grown in her backyard garden from a small wagon veggie stand she would put in her front yard. An avid walker and fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes football and basketball teams and she enjoyed listening to the Cincinnati Reds on the radio. A 50 plus year member of the Eastern Star Chapter #293, Ruth was one of the founding members of The Maize Manor United Methodist Church and she was active in many of their organizations including its alter and sewing guilds that made receiving blankets, booties and hats for newborns and neck pillows for patients at Riverside Hospital. Family will receive friends and family Monday at MORELAND FUNERAL HOME 55 East Schrock Road Westerville from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. where service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday August 21, 2012. Rev. Gloria Brooks officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breat Cancer Research or The Ohio Health Homereach Hospice care in her memory.
