Roma Victoria Ball, 93, of Centerburg, went to her eternal rest with the Lord Sunday July 19, 2015, at her residence surrounded by loving family members and friends. She was born Feb. 23, 1922, in Drill, VA, to the late James Rufus, and Nancy Elizabeth (Vance) Adkins. She married Paul Straugh Ball, of Honaker, VA, on June 26, 1936. The couple moved to Centerburg, with their two eldest children, in October of 1939. Roma was a homemaker and mother who raised seven children. She worked for a short time in the early 1960’s as a seamstress for Jean’s Frocks in Mt. Vernon. She regularly attended the Centerburg Christian Church where she was baptized in 1974. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting, and writing poetry. She will be sadly missed by her friends and loving family. She is survived by two daughters, Margaret M. (Bill) Vance, of Mt. Vernon, OH and Hazel P. (Randy) Bias, of Centerburg, OH; three sons, Lucin Elmer (Helen) Ball of Centerburg, OH, James L. Ball, of Hanover, OH, and Donald M. (Judy) Ball of Lynn Haven, FL, 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and a half sister, Irene Compton. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her two sons, Fred P. Ball and Henry A. Ball and an unnamed stillborn son; grandson, John Bias; five brothers, Dallas Adkins, Benjamin Adkins, Sylvester “Slim” Adkins, Walter Adkins and Robert Adkins; four sisters, Dora Osborn, Trula Williams, Francis Batten, and Marjorie Stanley. Friends may call Thursday July 23, 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon at the Centerburg Christian Church, 33 Church Street, Centerburg, where a Celebration of Life will be held at 12 noon with Pastor Jeff Perry officiating. Interment will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Centerburg. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Knox County or to a charity of your choice.
