Robert W. Smith, age 81, Minerva Park, surrounded by family, departed this world to step into eternal life on July 13, 2013, following a brief battle with cancer. He leaves behind his children, son Steven Smith and daughter Kimberly Smith Edwards (Steve) of Urbana. Grandchildren Sara (Edwards) Matt O’Malley; Steven and Cindi Edwards; and Jacqi Edwards. Great grandchildren Madison and McKenzie O’Malley and Layla and Steven Edwards. Brother Donald K. Smith (Winnie), Westerville; sisters-in-law, Rachel Burwell Barrow, Minerva Park, Eleanor Burwell, Westerville, Marna Burwell, Mount Vernon and Bernie (Gene) Williams, Lutz, Florida.
Preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Jo Ann Burwell Smith, in 2010 and his parents, Donald K and Hazel (Poland) Smith. Bob retired from North American Rockwell in 1988 after 37 years of service. He was a graduate of Westerville High School (1949) where he still holds many football records as an All City player for 4 years. He attended Otterbein College and served in the National Guard. He will be terribly missed by family and friends for his graciousness and generosity. Calling hours will be Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 at MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 East Schrock Road, Westerville, where service will be held on Thursday 11:00. Family will receive guests one hour prior to the service. Dr. David Hogg will be officiating. Interment Blendon Central Cemetery. The family would like to thank Mt. Carmel Hospice for their provisions during this period of time.
