Our family including my mom (Marjorie Wells) will miss Ray. He was always greeting us with a smile and we continue to miss him helping in so many ways in church activities. We won't forget in 1970 He and Roberta organized a wedding pantry shower for us (of Lincoln St. neighbors) I updated mom when she asked how Ray was doing. We all have fond memories of what a beautiful couple they were. We send our prayers for peace for You Kathy and all your families. Ray, I am sure is joining your mom in heaven. Prayers , Pam and Dennis Cooper

My condolences to the entire family. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Bertelsen through catering his Wednesday evening Kiwanis meetings and later, working with him and Mrs. Bertelsen on the Easter morning breakfasts at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. I don’t think I ever saw him (or Mrs. Bertlesen for that matter) without a smile. Over the years, he’d stop at one of the restaurants, just to check in and see how things were going. We’d have a word and a laugh, and he’d be on his way. I’ll miss those moments and seeing him walk through Uptown. May he rest in peace.

Richard Doll - Dec 15, 2022

I had the pleasure to know and work with Ray as the teacher of his son Mike, in ciruculum as the Social Studies Chair, as Key Club Advisor with its connections with the Westerville Kiwanis Club; and, as a fellow Kiwanian for over twenty years. Ray was a friend as well as an advisor and a mentor in many capacities. My sincerest condolences to the Bertlesen Family. May Ray RIP - he lived a full life and will be missed. Sincerely, Richard Doll

Les Randolph - Dec 15, 2022

I owe a great debt of gratitude to Ray. As a senior at Otterbein College in 1967 I was student teaching. Ray was my supervisor. After graduation I was interviewing for teaching positions with little luck other than an offer at a very small school in northwestern Ohio. Two days before signing a contract Westerville City Schools called and asked to interview me. I was informed, at the interview that Ray had recommended me to them. I was offered the job and began a 37 year career with Westerville City Schools. To Ray, he was just doing just a little extra on his job. To me, he set my life on a wonderful, fulfilling career

David Coffman - Dec 15, 2022

I had the opportunity to work with Ray in the last 80’s as a member of the Westerville school board. Ray was one of the brightest and most dedicated administrators the district had. He was always on top of everything and when asked a question to which he didn’t have an immediate answer, it didn’t take long for him to do the research and follow up. He made a huge impact on the students in our school system. He was one of the friendliest, smartest, and sincere people that I have ever met. I’m very sorry for the family’s loss.

Laurie Hart - Dec 14, 2022

We will miss Ray in our family. He was my stepfather's brother and was very much considered an uncle to Bert's children. He welcomed our big crew into his family when my mom married his brother and made us feel so much like family. I will always remember his kindness, his smile and laughter. My thoughts are with his family as they grieve this huge loss. Much Love, Laurie and family.
