Raymond D. Althoff, Sr., age 87, of Westerville, OH passed away October 31, 2017. Born October 8, 1930 in Fremont, OH to Alice and Oscar Althoff. Retired from Columbus Distributing Co. after 20 years and a 20 year veteran of U.S. Army serving in Korea and Vietnam. Active for many years with Boy Scouts of America. Survived by his son, Mike (Laurie) Althoff; grandchildren, Bryce and Madison Althoff; brothers, Ron (Nina) and Bob (Marguerite) Althoff; sisters; Jeanne (Bob) Eakin and Marilyn Roberts; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife, Helma, son, Ray, Jr., parents, sister, Anne Damschroder, brother-in-law, Ken Roberts and sister-in-law, Jan Althoff. Friends may call at the MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 E. Schrock Road, Westerville, Monday 6-8 p.m.. Service will be held at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 E. Schrock Road, Westerville, Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., Pastor Will Hartfelder, officiating. Interment Blendon Central Cemetery.

I never met Ray, but talked to him on the phone and corresponded with him. I was interested in the Althoff family as I’m one of Clara Althoff Albrecht’s granddaughters. He sent me his old olive green Althoff book. It helped me “see” the family. I wish I could have met him in person. I was at Cap when Bob and Marilyn were there. I am sorry for your loss. I saw the obit in the Dispatch even though the Althoff was missspelled.

Very sorry for the families loss. Tho I am related as a distant cousin, I did not meet him. I did meet up with Ron Althoff a few months ago. Your loss is a heavy burden. May God’s love aid your family.
