R. Patrick Pat Lawrence, 47, passed away at home Saturday, May 28. He is preceeded in death by his father, Bob Lawrence, and his father-in-law, Jim Houghton. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Shelly and his four sons, Alex, Evan, Bailey, and Noah; mother, Elizabeth Lawrence of Huntington, WV; sister, Pam Morrison (Jeff) of Huntington, WV; mother-in-law, Sharon Houghton; brother-in-law, Matt Houghton (Sarah) of Morgantown, WV; and 5 nieces and nephews, Mary, Trevor, Sam, Ramsey, and Maggie. He was an employee of American Electric Power for over 20 years. A graduate of Wayne County High School (1987) and Marshall University (1991). Pat found joy in every aspect of life. He loved spending time with his family and friends. If he wasnt coaching his children’s teams, he could be found in the stands cheering on their teams. He never knew a stranger and was known among his sons friends as Big Pat. His infectious smile and laughter will continue on in the hearts of all who knew him. Friends are invited to celebrate Pats life at MORELAND FUNERAL HOME 55 East Schrock Road, Wednesday, June 1st from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make donations to either colon cancer research (or a cancer research of your choice), the hospice of your choice, or CaringBridge.org.

Pat was a great man! I remember going to Marshall with him and sitting in the student section of the Joan when it first opened! Pat was always there in first or second row cheering on the Herd in the beginning of the Greatest era of Herd football. I will be praying for you and your 4 boys!
