HUFFMAN

Phyllip (Phyl) Huffman, age 86, and a lifelong resident of Centerburg, Ohio, passed away on February 4, 2014. Phyl is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Alvira (Owings) Huffman, sister Elizabeth, and brother Robert Huffman. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Jean (Chapman), and children, Brad Huffman, Julie (Ron) Burke, and Jeana Haines, as well as his dear twin sister, Phyllis (Mrs. Donald) Fuller, and numerous nieces and nephews. Phyl was “Papaw” to grandchildren Sarah, Andrew, Bronwyn, Heather, Hannah, Hayden, Kelsyn, and great-grandson, James, each the apple of his eye. He was previously employed with Big Bear, F & R Lazarus, and Carlisle Tire & Rubber. Phyl served his country proudly and honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of Mt. Zion Lodge #9, F. & A.M. and a 32nd degree Mason with the Valley of Columbus, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, as well as Amvets Post OH 59, American Legion, and the Centerburg Conservation Club. Though dealt a tremendous blow after suffering a stroke in the prime of his life, Phyl was an inspiration to all, as he maintained a positive outlook and sought many ways to enjoy life with family and friends. An avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed following The Ohio State Buckeyes, and attending many Centerburg Trojans’ sporting events. Phyl even conquered Facebook and e-mail, and, he never started a jigsaw puzzle he didn’t complete. Friends may call at the Centerburg United Methodist Church, 65 S. Hartford Ave., on Fri. Feb. 7, 2014 from 4-8 pm and Sat. Feb. 8, 2014 from 10-11am. A celebration of Phyl’s life will be at the church on Sat., Feb. 8, 2014 at 11am with interment following at Eastview Cemetery. Arrangements by JOHNSON-MELICK-MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, Centerburg, OH. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society, Centerburg Conservation Club or Centerburg United Methodist Church. Masonic service Friday at 8 p.m..

Condolences

Bruce & Linda Deister - Feb 18, 2014

To the Huffman Family,
Our deepest, deepest sympathies to the loss of your beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. Phyl was a great person to have a conversation with about anything. He always had a kind smile and a twinkle in his eyes. He is probably in heaven now with Woody getting a tour of his mansion in the sky and having Woody pointing out Bo’s little house.
May God bless your families in your time of grief.
Bruce and Linda Deister

I’m just returning from a 13 day vacation and cruise and checking my emails to find this one. I haven’t read anything only to see that Phil has passed. Please know my heart breaks for all of you and your families. He was a good man and father. Stay close to each other and the Lord. Wish I could be there to hug you and share your grief. Sincerely, Jeannie

Our thoughts and prayers with your wonderful family in this moment of sorrow. Phyl was a powerful positive light and a joy to be around. We all had such a great time at Kate Murphy’s wedding reception with he and Jean. We are grateful for the times we were able to share with him, and all of your family. We thank you for the gracious way you all have welcomed The Murphy’s since the first we met, you are a very special family!
God Bless

I am so sorry to read of your loss. I know the pain of losing loved ones and it’s only natural to wonder why God allows this to happen, but I was comforted in knowing that God views death as an enemy and will soon bring it to an end along with the pain that comes with it. (1 Corinthians 15:26, Revelation 21:4) and even more comforting is that He plans to bring our dead loved ones back to life one day. (John 5:28,29) I hope these scriptures help you cope until that day comes.

Jeana, so sorry to read your post. You will think of lots of questions that you wish you had asked and written down the history. That is normal. My father passed in February also. Hugs to you!
