November 2, 1941 - October 28, 2023
Paul (Dick) Miller, age 81, of Westerville, passed away October 28, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family. Preceded in death by his cherished wife Betty (Faulkner), mother Kathleen (Art) Wharton and father Paul (Maude) Miller, mother-in-law and father-in-law Delmar and Thelma Faulkner. Survived by loving daughter Paula (Rick) Shingledecker, granddaughter Kathleen (Carl) Nickels, sister-in-law Carrol Henestofel, several cousins, nieces, nephews, life long friends, and special friend Pat Parker.
Paul was a graduate of Central High School and Columbus State University. He was a proud U.S. Marine veteran and retired from the Columbus Police Department after 25 years. During his time with CPD he served as a patrolman and Sargent, and detective in the Vice Squad, Intelligence Bureau, and Organized Crime Bureau. After retirement he worked at various security consultant jobs and volunteered at Meals on Wheels.
Paul's greatest passion and joy was his family. He was always there to answer that phone call no matter what time it was, to provide guidance and strength, to listen, to jump in the car no matter what time of the day or night it was, to be at every important life event and to make sure we "Do the Dance".
We are comforted in knowing that he is enjoying watching Jeopardy with the love of his life Betty and Molly dog at his side.
There will be no service at the request of the family. If interested, donations can be made to Meals on Wheels in his honor. https://www.mealsonwheelsamerica.org/

Paul was a great leader. I work with him when I was assigned to the vice squad from the Department of Liquor Control and later when I moved to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation when he was a supervisor at OC and Intelligence bureaus . Lots of great memories. RIP Marine

The best Sgt. ever in the history of the CPD and an even greater human being. He will be sorely missed by both friends and family as they don't make a peron like Paul anymore.

I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Paul. He was a dedicated detective and friend to many on the CPD, and I feel fortunate to have worked with him for several years in the Vice Squad. Paul’s calming presence and kindness were always appreciated, and I will never forget the many great memories we shared together. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.

When I was assigned to the vice unit in 1972 , as Paul's supervisor, I knew very little about vice inforcement. Paul was a great mentor to his new sergeant, as well as a dedicated police officer. He will be missed.

R.I.P. Marine. You will be missed. I enjoyed working with Sgt Miller while in the Narcotics Bureau. He never sloughed off my requests for people or equipment. He loved his work and it always showed. Thanks Sarge.
