Nira Jean Scoles, age 89, of Westerville, OH, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2022. Born August 6th, 1933, in Mansfield, OH, to Ruth and Major Robertson, she was the 12th of 13 children. Graduated from Mansfield Senior High School. Attended Marion College and St. Paul Bible College before returning home and marrying her sweetheart, Bruce Melvin Scoles, on August 16th, 1958. Within a few years they moved to Westerville where they raised their three children.

Nira poured herself into family and community. She was a dedicated homemaker, proud mother, wonderful neighbor, and self-appointed aunt to every dog in the neighborhood. She found joy in any event that brought family together - from birthdays, to holidays, to Sunday popcorn dinner - and delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Nira loved the Lord and always tried to be a light to the people around her. She attended Grace Polaris Church for over 40 years. She had a heart for world missions and supported several missionaries over the years. The core of her own personal church family was the Pew Perkers, with whom she kept the sanctuary at Grace tidy for many years.

Nira will be deeply missed by her son, Burney (Becky) Scoles of Noblesville, IN and daughter, Ginger Bruce of Westerville, OH; daughter-in-law Linda Scoles of Marysville, OH; grandchildren Trevor, Ben, Adelia, Jacob, Lydia, Rachel, Philip, Amanda, and Liam; great-grandchildren Kiera, McKenna, Teigan, Lincoln, Oliver, Moira, Marshall, and Mozzie; twin sister Norma Mathews and brother Emmett Robertson; sisters-in-law Mary Ann Robertson and Dorothy (Dot) Robertson. Although we grieve her loss, we are happy that she has been reunited in heaven with her husband, Bruce, and her beloved son, Pastor Todd Scoles.

A gathering to remember and celebrate Nira's life will be held at the Grace Polaris Church Ministry Center, 8225 Worthington-Galena Road, Westerville, on Saturday, October 22, 2022 with visitation to begin at 1:00 pm, followed by funeral service at 2:30 pm.

To honor her memory and her dedication to supporting missions work, those who wish may donate to Encompass World Partners by mail (PO Box 64528, Colorado Springs, CO, 80962) or online (encompassworldpartners.org).

Our deepest condolences to the Scoles family from the Ring family that used to live next door. We will be forever grateful for all of your kindness as our parents and sister Mary Jo lived at "366". May they all rest in peace.

Amy L Pressler - Oct 19, 2022

We wish you comfort as you are missing your dear mom. We had a nice visit with her in the spring and she had us laughing the whole time. She was always so full of joy and faith. Heaven is a happier place as she and Bruce and Todd reunite.

Jim and Maureen Sharp - Oct 19, 2022

All the years I was an employee at Grace Brethren Church Nira was always there thinking of others and how she could help them if they were in need. What a joy it was to be in the pew perkers group to fellowship and enjoy a cup of coffee and a dessert. I know she is rejoicing in Heaven serving our Father and others. Love forever Jim&Maureen Sharp

To Burney, Keep in your memory the wonderful times from Catawba Avenue.Todd graduated in the same year as myself.I can remember Todd’s calm demeanor and his kindness.I believe that your mother and father put in the most time walking on “ The Indian Reservation “ than anyone I ever knew . Your mother told me something long ago that I still don’t remember. That she took me to kindergarten at the Masonic temple when I was five.Something makes me believe that this was merely one good deed among many that your mom shared with others .She was a true gem.I myself have lost many loved ones but when I remember my childhood on Catawba Avenue it always makes me feel complete.
