Mary Margaret Guthrie Neighbors, daughter of Newton Heber Guthrie and Cynthia B. Hershey, passed away September 17, 2014 in Westerville. Ohio. She was born on June 8, 1926 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents and her late husband, Grover Cooper Neighbors who died May 31, 1953. Mary was a lifelong Democrat and served as district chairwoman in Wyandotte County and as a Sliverhaired Legislator for the State of Kansas. She is survived by her brother, John Robert Guthrie (Aurora, Colorado), three children John Roger (wife Mary), Jan Cynthia Stowell (husband Steven), and Jeffrey Newton. She has four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Julie Susanne Nikolic (husband Tommy), her children Avery and Preston, Kyle Neighbors, Brock Neighbors and Morgan Neighbors and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial will be conducted on September 22, 2014 at 6pm at Maple Hill Funeral Home, Kansas City, Kansas.
