Mary Jane Hughes, age 95, passed away June 23, 2022. She was born May 1, 1927 in Johnstown, PA to her parents, the late, Cortlandt and Myrtle (Hancock) Hughes. She was the third child of eight. She was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Cortlandt (Jaqueline), John Donald (Joyce), Edwin (Elizabeth), Frederick, and Harry Hughes (Carole) Hughes. She is survived by sister, Nancy Ann (Frank) McDonald of Westerville; brother, Richard Arlen (Carla) of Massillon; and sister-in-law, Tina Hughes (widow of Frank) of Virginia. Mary Jane is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, whom she adored. She was beloved by all of her family and friends. She treated all people with caring and kindness; she never met a stranger.

In 1936, after the Johnstown flood, the family moved to Canton, Ohio. For many years Mary Jane and her mother lived on Clark Avenue SW and were active members of the Canton Baptist Temple church and attended many Jolly Sixties events at the church. In 1991, Mary Jane, along with her mother, moved to Westerville, Ohio to live with Nancy. Mary Jane participated in the Westerville Senior Center and Church of the Resurrection services and activities. Her loving smile and faith in God will be forever missed.

Calling hours will be at the Moreland Funeral Home on 55 East Schrock Road, Westerville, Ohio 43081 (614) 882-2197 June 29, 2022, 1 to 4 pm. followed by a service at 4 p.m., Dr. Jim Heidinger, officiating. Internment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, 4414 Cleveland Avenue NW, Canton, Ohio 44709, June 30, 2022 at 1 p.m.

The family wishes to thank Hospice who cared so lovingly for her during her stay at the nursing homes in Westerville.

Aunt Mary Jane was such a loving person. She loved the Lord & showed it to everyone she met. We will miss her but we are happy she’s rejoicing in heaven now.
