GALLAGHER

Mary Suzanne (Sue) Gallagher born October 6, 1933 is survived by her twin brother, Bill (Phyllis) Gallagher; children, Suzy (Robin) Flood, Claire (Tom) Stickel, Julie (Kerry) Snyder, Mary (Ed) Hollern; grandchildren, Alyson (Dennis) Peoples, Chris, Katie and Bryan Flood, Joseph & Eric Stickel, Heather (James) Overbeck, Julia (Travis) Taylor, Andra and Kerry Snyder, Laura (Adam) Loewer, Conor and Joanna Hollern; daughter in law, Cindy Ucker; great grandchildren, Keilani, Vivian, Ruby, Kaeden and Hannah and many dear nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by son, Joe Ucker; mother, Ann Gallagher; father, William Gallagher and sister, Linda Gallagher. Graduating from Mt Carmel School of Nursing in 1954, she left nursing to begin a family. She said she was happiest at home with her kids and had wished for one day more of having them little again. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed painting and sketching. Though not an avid gardener, anything she planted thrived. She took flying lessons, soloed once landing in a cornfield and was happy to just walk away. She loved animals and always seemed to have at least one. It was her belief that if an elephant came up her street without tags it would wind up in her house. An interest in legal research led her to Capital University Law School where she completed the para-legal program. Sue returned to nursing in 1970 as the school nurse at Christ the King Catholic School. Over the next 30 years, among her other positions, she volunteered with the Red Cross, worked in the treatment of alcohol and drug abuse, and finally found her passion in caring for the elderly and the treatment of dementia, including Alzheimers. She expressed great compassion when describing her how she felt about her patients. Ironically, having fought valiantly, Sue lost her own battle with dementia on May 23rd at Forest Hills Center and is sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. A visitation will take place on Thursday, June 2nd, from 6-7 pm with a service to follow at 7 pm at MORELAND FUNERAL HOME 55 E Schrock Rd, Westerville OH 43081 In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Faithful Forgotten Best Friends (ffbf-columbus.org) or the Alzheimers Association (alz.org)
