Born on February 22, 1943, in Jefferson County, Ohio, she was the daughter of William John Irvin and Gertrude Lucille Elswick. Mary Ann attended Steubenville High School, where she participated in the band and was a majorette.
Mary Ann continued her education at Columbus Technical Institute, earning her associate of applied science degree in nursing technology with honors. She went on to become a registered nurse, which allowed her to serve in the healthcare field with distinction. Throughout her career, she worked at both Mt. Carmel East and Grant Hospitals, where she had the privilege of helping to bring many babies into this world. Mary Ann also provided consulting services to Hewlett Packard, traveling around the country to train hospital staff on how to operate their fetal monitoring equipment.
On August 28, 1965, she married James Richard Mansfield, Jr. in Worthington, Ohio. They established homes in Worthington, Gahanna, and New Albany. They also enjoyed spending time at their vacation residence at Indian Lake.
Throughout her life and during retirement, Mary Ann enjoyed various hobbies, including birdwatching, sewing, cross-stitching, crocheting, reading, and cake decorating.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Nellie Irene Irvin. After her mother's death, she was initially raised by her maternal aunt, Irene Johnston (Charles), and later by her other maternal aunts, Wilma and Frances Elswick.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband Rich and their three daughters: Jennifer Welday (Rob) of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; Janet Willett (Chris) of Durham, North Carolina; and Susan Mansfield (Chris Kaser) of Worthington, Ohio. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Juliet, Joey, Lucas, and Caleb Welday, as well as Isaac and Lois Willett.
