Mark Nield, age 63, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025. He was born on September 28, 1961, in Rochester Pennsylvania to William and Pauline Nield. He was a 1979 graduate of Center High School and graduated with a Computer Science Degree from Penn State University. He married Linda Abbott on June 16, 1984, and raised 3 children.
Marks professional career spanned 38 years. His career began as an entry-level programmer with Exxon. One of his more memorable undertakings was gathering data on wildlife that was impacted by the Exxon Valdez Oil spill in Alaska. Ten years later he joined McHale US Connect, an IT company focused on education, where he began his sales career advancing to a Vice President position. Mark continued his career in sales technology, holding various VP and leadership positions, including TeKnowlogy Education Centers in Houston, TX, Cisco Systems, VTEL (Video Teleconferencing), and Relational Technology Solutions all in Columbus, OH. In 2012, Mark began a new chapter of his career as a founding partner of IQ Solutions Group (IQSG) in Westerville, OH from which he retired in May of 2020. Though Mark was very active in his career and running his successful business.
Marks number one focus was his wife Linda, his children (Nicole, Brian and Cameron) and ultimately his grandchildren. Mark had many passions in his life. In addition to his family, he loved to golf, fish, hunt, coach, take beach vacations, and root for Penn State. He also loved working with his hands, especially landscaping and gardening. Being an avid golfer, one of his most memorable golf moments was playing at Augusta National where he proudly scored a par on the par 3 #12 at Amen Corner. He loved to fish the Allegheny River boasting of his skill and backing it up with results like catching one of the largest walleyes, freshwater drums and catfishes weve ever seen. Mark loved to hunt white tail deer, but he mostly enjoyed being in the woods and spending time with his brothers and his sons during hunting season.
Mark coached his 3 kids while growing up in the many sports that they played. One of his teams even went 5 straight seasons undefeated. Going to the beach with his family was one of his favorite things to do. Mark enjoyed making sand sculptures that included large turtles, crabs and castles. Many beachcombers would pass by for pictures of his work.
A long time Penn State fan, Mark got to enjoy his first White Out game in 2005 as The Nittany Lions played the Buckeyes and won the game 17 - 10. Marks love for landscaping was displayed with his beautiful flower beds and a wide assortment of flowering bushes and trees. He always said, if he could go back, he would have started his own landscaping business. Another one of Marks passions was building their cabin on the Allegheny River in PA. Their dream began to come true in 2010 when construction started on the garage. Over the next 6 years they spent every weekend and other free time building their log cabin. It was officially completed in 2016. They named it Cast-Away, The Place for REEL Therapy a tribute to his love of fishing. The cabin is the gathering place for family and friends and yes, Mark kept it landscaped to perfection. It was also at the cabin where he became the dominate corn hole player of the family.
Mark was a devoted husband, father, brother, and papa to his grandchildren. He was very kind and generous and accumulated many friends. Over the past 5 years, Mark battled ALS (Lou Gehrigs disease). Unfortunately, ALS drained this fun-loving, go-getter of all the things he truly enjoyed. While the disease slowly seized his life, his wife and family continued to be his strength. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
Mark is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda (Abbott) Nield; children, daughter, Nicole Shively (Kevin); sons, Brian Nield (Emily) and Cameron Nield (Melani); grandchildren, Dawson (7), Wren (6), Everett (4), Warren (1), Isaac (3 months) and James (3 months); sisters, Christina Nield, Debra (Nield) Benadum (Gary); brothers, Michael Nield (Robin) and David Nield; nephews, Andrew Borham (Danielle), Jonathon Michael Nield and Brandon Abbott; brother-in-law, Douglas Abbott (Michelle); mother-in-law, Georgia Abbott Mrs. A.

Linda and family, I am so sorry to hear of Mark's passing. I worked with Mark for many years and have such great memories of his big bright personality. He loved his wife, kids and their families, and family in PA so much. He was always talking about all the adventures and wildlife on the family land on the Allegheny. I was able to keep in touch w Mark and Linda, and Mark just gushed over his kids and was so excited and proud of all his grandchildren. He sure loved Penn State! I was lucky enough to experience the Nield family Halloween haunted house madness and Octoberfest in PA… super special family! Sending prayers and love. God Bless. Tracy and Paige Hardison.
