With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Lawrence (Larry) Maxwell McCartney, Jr. who passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at age 85. Born in Columbus, Ohio, Larry was the son of the late Lawrence Sr. and Wilma McCartney. He graduated from Central High School and proudly served in the United States Air Force. He married the love of his life, Martha, and later earned his degree from Franklin University. Larry enjoyed a successful career at Scott's Miracle-Gro, retiring as Vice President of Information Systems. He was a devoted and deeply cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Martha; his children Kim (Andy) Cody, Laurie McCartney, and Melanie (Jon) Kinkel; grandchildren Morgan (Kevin) Adik, Martha Cody, Hunter Minney, Gage (Alexis) Minney, and Gabrielle (Justen) Copley; great-grandson, Owen; his brother, Emmett; sister-in-law, Rachel; and many nieces and nephews. A private memorial service will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Larry’s honor to Suncrest Hospice 7965 N. Larry was one of my customers when he was the VP of Information Systems at Scott’s-Miracle Gro. I truly enjoyed working with Larry—he was an exceptional person. My deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time.

We are so very sorry for all the McCartney family. Larry was a great guy who loved his family. We fondly remember many of the good times in Freedom Colony when we both lived there. He will be sorely missed.
