Kathleen McCord, of Columbus, Ohio and Reston, Virginia, passed away on March 23, 2025,
following a battle of over six years with breast cancer and its complications.
She is survived by her brothers Michael and Christopher; her aunt Elizabeth Brock; her nieces Alejandra and Meredith McCord; her nephews Thomas and Alexander Brock McCord; her sisters in-law Donna Miller Rostant and Pamela Carlberg McCord; and by her cousins Jane Veling, Matt and Lee Peterson, and Bill and Fred Brock.
Kathy was a native of Marion, Ohio, where she was the only daughter of her late parents, Thomas Keil McCord and Anne Brock McCord. Kathy was an Honors Society graduate of River Valley High School in Marion, Ohio and a 1983 graduate of Bowling Green State University in Ohio, where she earned her B.S. in Business Administration. Kathys professional career was in the health insurance industry, including over 30 years with Aetna.
Following her graduation from college and the death of her father, Kathy lived with and cared for her mother Anne in Columbus for over 35 years. With her mother, Kathy enjoyed travel to Europe and across the United States, and going to the theater. Kathy was a fan of musical theater in particular. She also had a flair for nature photography, enjoyed doing puzzles, and was a regular patron of the Worthington farmers market. Kathy was an educated and active citizen and a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Kathy and Anne were devoted owners of several beloved cats over the years, including Tasha, Angus, Max, and Murray.
Following the death of her mother, Kathy relocated to Virginia with her brother Mike and sister- in-law Donna where she enjoyed visits by family, including Donna and Mikes children and grandchildren, and remained a fan of Jeopardy, the Food Network, and British mysteries.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated. Kathys family acknowledges and expresses our gratitude for the years of thoughtful care she received from the oncology teams, home health aides, and many other health care professionals in Columbus and Northern Virginia.
There will be a visitation at the Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon, Virginia, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, followed by a memorial gathering at the Moreland Funeral Home in Westerville, Ohio on Saturday March 29, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. A family burial will follow.
