Karneese “Kay” Childress, of Gambrills, Maryland. Born in St. Louis, Missouri on December 28, 1945 and passed away on December 12, 2010 peacefully at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loved ones. Survived by her children, Sheril (Benjamin) Carey and Kirk (Jorge Olivares) Childress; grandchildren, Alexander, Gwyneth and Anneliese; parents, Donald and Karneese Ruth; brother, Kenneth Ruth; nephews, Jess (Kelly) and Sam (Ashley) Ruth.
Kay dedicated her life to caring for her family, first raising her children and then caring for her parents. She also had a long career as a real estate agent. Kay loved to create, particularly through sewing and knitting. She also loved to teach these skills. So many people will carry on these artistic craft traditions because of the seeds of knowledge Kay planted with them. The beauty of the clothes, sweaters, quilts, etc. that she leaves behind will be cherished for generations.
Above all, Kay was a loving, caring, warm, gentle and kind soul. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. The world is an infinitely better place for her having passed through it.
