John Gladden Troutman Jr. Westerville, OH, passed away peacefully, but unexpectedly, on Sunday, January 26, 2025, after nearly 60 years of complications with Type 1 Diabetes. John was born February 22, 1941 at Berger Hospital in Circleville, Ohio. His parents were Gladden and Roma Troutman.
John met Christine Ann Paullin at Capital University and they were married on June 6, 1964, at Zion Lutheran Church in Loudonville, OH. They celebrated 60 years of marriage this past June in Shelby, NC, with many of Johns family members.
John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Christine; daughters, Amy (Tim) Martin of Gahanna, OH, Lori (Kirk) Bantz of Powell, OH, and grandchildren, Jordan (Christina) Martin, Hilliard, OH, Cassidy (Seth) Murphy, Gahanna OH, and Nathanial Bantz, Powell, OH and great grandchild, Jonah Murphy. He is also survived by his devoted siblings, David (Linda) Troutman, Franklin, TN, Norma (Bill) Meyers, Shelby, NC, and Teresa (Gary) Hayworth, Mechanicsburg, PA; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents Gladden and Roma Troutman, nephews, Timothy Meyers and Kevin Troutman and niece, Karen Troutman.
John is a graduate of Circleville High School (1959), Capital University (BSBA, 1963), Xavier University (MBA, Finance, 1975). He started his business career in 1963 at BF Goodrich in Akron, Ohio. He moved the family to West Chester, OH in 1973 to begin his career at Cincinnati Milacron, as Assistant Treasurer. In 1994, they moved to Sidney, OH, where he was President of Midwest Elastomers, until retirement in 2003, when he and Christine moved to Westerville to be close to their daughters. Organizations in which John was involved include The American Red Cross, Donate Life, and United Way. John supported these organizations as well as American Diabetes Association, and JDRF, now known as Breakthrough T1D.
Music has been an integral part of his life, beginning with high school band, and continuing throughout his life, including Capital University Chapel Choir and Choral Union, church choirs and serving as cantor at the churches he and Chris attended. He also enjoyed being in the audience for his family members solos, choir concerts, dance and theater performances.
Another passion for John was sports. He wrestled in high school and college, and found a lot of joy in watching family members participating in their sports.
And it cant go without mention, that some of the best days of his life included family, water, a boat and a sunny, beautiful, glorious day!
John was not only an amazing son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather , cousin and more, but more importantly, he was an incredible Christian role model for all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

Dear Chris, Amy, Lori & family, Aaron , our children Erin, Brian, & I have all been blessed by John & you throughout the years: at Ascension Lutheran Church in Cincinnati & wherever you have lived since then. John always showed such kindness & hospitality to everyone adults as well as children including our own two children. Truly, God bestowed all of the fruit of the spirit upon his beloved child John including leadership as John served Ascension as Church Council President & in many other roles while serving our Lord & Savior Christ Jesus. John suffered in so many ways as a result of juvenile diabetes and many of its complications. Chris has always been right there by John’s side lovingly reminding him when it was time for some juice or a snack! What pure love John & Chris shared with each other & their two lovely daughters Amy & Lori, as well as their two sons-in-law, three grandchildren & precious little great-grandson. John, we know that your soul is now in Heaven along with all the angels & saints. May our Sovereign Triune God, God in three persons, blessed Trinity watch over our forever friends Chris, Amy, Lori & families & hold each one in the Loving Palms of His Hands. Peace be with you dear friends in Jesus. Most lovingly, Midge, Erin, & Brian

John was such a blessing to all who knew him. He had that beautiful gift of making one feel from the first moment you met him that he was genuinely glad to know you and was going yo be a forever friend. We have all been blessed by his great courage in dealing with his disease and still always thinking of others rather than himself. I pray that Chris and all the family will be comforted by their deep faith knowing the great celebration there is in heaven when his beautiful voice joins the heavenly choirs. May God’s unending love and caring comfort your family as you grieve your loss.

John was very special to me. He and Chris were the first people to reach out to us when we first started attending Grace Lutheran Church. I sat next to him in choir and valued his insight when the security team was just starting. He was one of those special people that you. Always enjoyed being around. I will miss him !!

Marc Dinopoulos - Jan 28, 2025

We were very sad to hear about John's passing. John & Chris were some of the first people to welcome us to the Westerville Reserve neighborhood. Often we would get the opportunity to talk to John as we walked our dogs around the block. He was a gracious and thoughtful neighbor inquiring about our lives and family and always letting us know what was going in his family, especially his grandchildren. He always had the little American flags around his yard on the major holidays, reminding of us this great country we live in. Our deepest condolences to Chris and the family. -Marc & Amber Dinopoulos, former neighbors

Bill and Kathy Snead - Jan 28, 2025

Dear Christine and family, Bill and I were so sad to hear of John’s passing. Our time at Grace Lutheran (30 years) spent worshipping and serving with friends were the best of our lives. Your beautiful voices praising our Lord will never be forgotten. My time as Finsncial Secretary at Grace and moving forward with the building program was without a doubt some of the most difficult and worrisome challenges I faced. John spent many an hour supporting me as I struggled with the many decisions that affected our church—his quiet encouragement and patience was the strength I needed to trust my judgement to move forward with the project. And his presence at all the various meetings provided the checks and balances needed for the congregation and for me personally. We have an amazing sanctuary and gathering space which has brought many hours of wonderful acoustics for the choir and outside musical groups. I hope John knew how much I appreciated his support. He is missed by many. I pray that God grants you and your family healing peace. Our sincere sympathy Kathy and Bill Snead.
