Jeffrey Dwight Hunter, age 70, died peacefully on November 5th, 2025.
Born on December 27, 1954, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, Jeff arrived two months early, beginning life as a determined fighter. His early arrival earned him extra attention and, as he grew, he skillfully negotiated special privileges from his mother a talent that would serve him well throughout his life. Jeffs persuasive abilities were legendary, whether convincing his family he needed a new bike, a personal television in the 1960s, or even a convertible.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Julius H. Hunter (Ether) and Phyllis Sanders (John) as well as his brother Gregory G. Hunter. He is survived by his wife Pam Scott, his brother Julius H. Hunter (Saundra), his son Jeffrey (Amy) Hunter, his stepson Matthew (Emily) Scott, his stepdaughter Amanda (Christopher) Murawski, six grandchildren, many nieces and other relatives, as well as a host of business colleagues and friends.
During most of his childhood and teen years Jeff lived in Columbus, Ohio. A proud graduate of Eastmoor High School (Class of 1973), he was active in tennis and student council. He went on to earn a degree in Political Science from Ohio University and later his Juris Doctor from the University of Toledo in 1990. After a brief time in Bay City, Michigan, Jeff returned to Ohio, where he was admitted to the bar in 1993.
Jeff dedicated the bulk of his career to the Greene County Prosecutors Office, serving as Chief Trial Counsel for Prosecuting Attorneys William F. Schenck and Stephen K. Haller. In that role, he cultivated a reputation as a dedicated and hardworking prosecutor. His trial skills secured convictions of various felony offenses, amassing a 98% success rate for the cases he handled for the Prosecutors Office. Jeff was passionate about serving his community through this position, consistently seeking justice for crime victims and the county he served.
Jeff loved The Ohio State Buckeyes, Boston Celtics, camping, tennis, running, spirited debates, and Reschs Bakery (not necessarily in that order). Nothing could bring him to tears like great Boston Celtics and Ohio State wins and losses. He passed this passion for Ohio State on to his son, Jeff Jr. Jeff loved to spend time with his family, tailgating at Ohio State games and taking his family on countless RV trips. Playing tennis was an important part of his life, and he particularly loved teaching Jeff Jr. to play. He created cherished memories of the many times they traveled together to tournaments in their motorhome.
Jeff married his wife Pamela on August 25, 2012, and together they built a life in Pickerington, Ohio. He enjoyed being around people and was always ready for a friendly argument, even if he knew he was wrong perhaps especially if he knew he was wrong. Jeff had an impact on many and his lightheartedness and friendly banter will be greatly missed.
