Janet L. (Allen) Gething, age 87, of Westerville, passed away Friday, May 2, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 19, 1938, a daughter of James R. Allen and Clara Lou (Henley) Allen. She was married to the late Randall J. Gething.
Janet attended Central College Presbyterian Church where she served in the office and food pantry and retired from the Ohio Historical Society in 2004.
She was a member of the Mariam Chapter #278 Youngstown, OH, Order of Eastern Star and Past Worthy Matron of Lamplight, Chapter #582 Poland, OH, Order of the Eastern Star, also belonging to the Rebounders Club for The Ohio State University Lady Buckeyes Basketball Team, and the American Association of Retired Persons. Janet was an avid follower of the OSU Football Team and the Lady Buckeyes Basketball Team. She was active with multiple golf leagues for over 40 years and enjoyed going to the Westerville Senior Center.
Janet is survived by three daughters, Sandy (Joe) Holden of Lanexa, VA, Sheryl (Steve) Bartolone, of Westerville, OH and Sharon (Mike) Brady of Punta Gorda, FL; six grandchildren, Chuck (Brynn) Holden, Nick (Stephanie) Bartolone, Steven Bartolone, Jamie Hillis, Sean Brady and Lauren Brady; seven great-grandchildren, Alex, Joey, Jaxon and Lily Holden, Ella, Declan and Harley Bartolone; and one on the way in August, three sisters, Ruth Kmetz, Beverly Wyatt and Emilie Denmeade; two brothers, Robert "Butch" Allen and Jim Allen; and from her late husband, one niece, Audrey Budd.
In addition to her parents and husband Janet was preceded in death by one sister, Annis Queen, one brother, Jack Allen and two nieces from her husband, Doris Norling and Miss Harriet Keyser.
Janet's greatest joy was being with her family. She was a loving mother, devoted grandmother, and cherished friend whose warmth touched everyone around her. She had a special gift for making people smile, whether through her kind words, thoughtful gestures, or gentle humor. Her heart was always open, and she made it her mission to ensure everyone felt cared for and included. Janet's presence brought comfort and joy, and her selfless spirit left a lasting impact on all who knew her. She lived a life full of love, compassion, and quiet strength, and her memory will forever be treasured by all who knew her.

Friends may call Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 4-7 p.m. and Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 10-11 a.m. at the Moreland Funeral Home, 55 East Schrock Road, Westerville, OH 43081. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor David Redding officiating. Burial will follow in the Northlawn Cemetery in Westerville
