James O. Thomas, age 90, of Columbus, OH, formerly of Mount Carmel, PA passed away Friday, August 8, 2014 at Friendship Village. Retired from Nationwide Insurance after a 30 plus year career as Director of Human Resources. Veteran U.S. Army. Served in the Pacific during World War II where he received two Purple Hearts. Lifetime member of the Masons in Pennsylvania. A Dale Carnegie instructor. Actor. A very involved father and grandfather. Preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Thomas (Hilldenbrand). Survived by children, Lee Ann (Brandon) Ned, Cathy (Michael) Ferrell and Craig (JoAnne) Thomas; grandchildren, Matthew, Allison, Danny, Clayton and Cole. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 11th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the MORELAND FUNERAL HOME 55 East Schrock Road, Westerville where a service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Rebecca Scott Ozcomert, officiating. Interment Blendon Central Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shirley Thomas Education Fund at the Columbus Zoo, 4850 Powell Rd, Powell, OH 43065.
