Condolences

Chris Cordle - Jul 27, 2025

I'm so sorry to read today of Jim's passing. Of the many great things he accomplished, the nearest to my heart is when, using a huge Galion experimental road grader, Jim created the runway at Centerburg Community Airport. This was in 1964. The runway was a true gem, "the smoothest in the state" according then Ohio Aviation Administrator Norman Crabtree. Later, the airport was renamed Chapman Memorial Field to honor, USAF Captain Peter Hayden Chapman. The Cordle Family, the Chapman and Huffman families, the Airports many happy users over the years, and the Centerburg Community will always be grateful for Jim's skill and generosity. May he rest in peace.
