James Howard Carpenter
June 1st, 1939 February 18th, 2025
James Howard Carpenter, a beloved brother, devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and dear friend to many, passed away peacefully on February 18th, 2025, at the age of 85, surrounded by his family.
Born on June 1st, 1939, James was a devoted and loving father to his three children: Paul, Aaron, and Heather. His eldest, Paul, took on the honor and responsibility of being Jamess primary caretaker, a role that deepened their bond as not just father and son, but also best friends. To his children, James was more than a parenthe was a guiding light, a source of unwavering love, and the best dad they could have ever asked for. His legacy lives on through his seven grandchildrenBrittany, Tiffany, Tory, Cody, Brandon, Victor, and Estebanwhom he cherished and spoiled at every opportunity, as well as his five great-grandchildrenAddison, Ethan, Marlin, Wyatt, and Marcelluswith one more little blessing on the way.
He shared a love and marriage with Jacqueline Ann Carpenter, who remained his wife at heart until the end.
James was a beloved brother to Richard Carpenter, who preceded him in passing, and Gloria Cochenour, his sister who affectionately called him "Jimmy" and who remains with us today. Glorias husband, Bill Cochenour, was more than a brother-in-lawhe was a brother at heart to James. James was also preceded in passing by his beloved niece, Conny, Richard and Leilas daughter, and will be remembered by his nephews Mark, Mike, and Delmer. His three nieces from Gloria and BillCathy, Misty, and Christinaknew him fondly as their uncle "Boom Boom."
James dedicated his career as a Material Handler at Fruehauf, working tirelessly to provide for his family. But beyond his work, his greatest joy was found in the simple, beautiful moments of life. He loved taking his children and grandchildren on camping trips, never missing a soccer game or any of their extracurricular activities. Some of his most cherished moments were spent on peaceful walks at Inniswood Metro Gardens which was his favorite park, where he would lead his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to the frog ponds, sharing his love for nature and adventure. He walked and walked until he no longer could, always embracing the world around him. But above all, he treasured the warmth of family gatheringsthe true heart of his life. Family was, above all, the most important thing to him.
James had an unconditionally loving, selfless, forgiving, and endlessly giving heart. His gentle and loving soul touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. There was never a moment when he wouldnt go out of his way to help someone in need. If you asked, he would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation. He lived to be there for his family, never asking for anything in return. Saying "no" was never in his naturehis love and generosity knew no bounds.
Every member of his family carries cherished memories of himstories filled with laughter, love, and the quiet strength he always provided. His laugh was contagious, spreading joy wherever he went. We will always remember that laughthe one where hed laugh so hard hed cover his mouth. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on February 26th at Moreland Funeral Home from 12 PM to 2 PM. We invite all who knew and loved him to join us in honoring his memory.
James was a guiding light in our lives, and now, he will continue to watch over us as our angel in heavenjust as he always has
