James Wade DiGuilio, age 71, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2012 at home with his wife at his side. He fought a gallant fight with cancer. He was born September 3, 1940 in Columbus, Ohio to his late parents, Mary and James (Kaki) DiGuilio. Also preceded by his grandmother, Jean (Grandma Jean) Snyder; brothers, Gary and Norman (Alfie) DiGuilio; brothers-in-law, Robert and Ron Haycraft. Jim graduated from Linden McKinley High School, class of 1958. Following graduation, he worked at Western Electric for 7 years, then went on to graduate from the Columbus Police Academy, class of 1966. After 31 fullfilling years, Jim retired from the Columbus Police Department on May 31, 1997 to spend more time with his wife and family, which he did. He was so proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren and attended nearly all their sporting events. His life was his family. Jim leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Sylvia; son, J.D. (Sandy) DiGuilio of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; daughters, Stephanie DiGuilio Rosso of Honolulu, Hawaii and Ricci (Timothy) DiGuilio Gravely of Lewis Center, Ohio; 6 grandchildren, Niki and Dominic DiGuilio, Kaimana and Jade Rosso, Stephanie and Hope Gravely; nephews, Brian DiGuilio, Mark and Todd Haycraft; nieces, Vicki (Mike) DiGuilio Bondoc, Shari (Joe) DiGuilio Nagy, Carlene (DeWayne) Leonard Gibson, Rhonda (Tom) Haycraft Renihan, Bobbi Haycraft Jones; brother-in-law, Charles Leonard; sister-in-laws, Linda Leonard, Cheryl DiGuilio, Cherri DiGuilio and Barbara Haycraft. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 26th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the MORELAND FUNERAL HOME 55 East Schrock Road, Westerville where a service will be held Monday, February 27th at 11:00 a.m.. Randy Koehler officiating. Interment Cheshire Cemetery, Galena, Ohio.

In his capacity in the Detective Bureau, Jim was a great help to me in coordinating the Central Ohio Crime Stoppers Program in the 1980s. He was a fine detective, a true professional, and always a pleasure to work with. My thoughts and prayers are with Jim’s extended family.
