Jack L. Sobish Jr., age 63, sadly passed away on February 7, 2024. Jack was born to Jack L. and Marcia (Lynn) Sobish Sr. on July 18, 1960, in Muskegon, MI, spending his childhood in the Glenside area. Upon graduating from Muskegon Catholic Central High School in 1978, Jack attended Saginaw Valley University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in computer science. Having an obvious aptitude for computers, Jack became one of the pioneers of the industry, ultimately traveling the world developing cyber security systems for fortune 500 companies.

On October 2, 1982, Jack married the love of his life, the former Carol Boswell, who survives him along with their 4 sons: Jack III (Marcia) of Texas; David (Haylee); Kevin (Kelly); Eric (Maria) of Pennsylvania. Jack was proud "papa" to Jessica (Benjamin), Tiffany, Dylan, Sean, Jaden, Ryon, Noah, Olivia, Mia, Ella, Jonah, Cecila, and Madelyn; and greatpapa to Devin, Evelyn and Tatum. One sister, Jean (David) Kennedy of Muskegon, mother-in-law Barbara Bauman of Michigan, several neices and nephews, and former daughter- in-law, Trie Campbell of Illinois, also survive him. He will be missed by his sisters-in-law Betsy (Tim), Kathy (Jeff), Susan (Joe), Jane (Brian), Martha (Brian) and brother-in-law Joe (Amber). Jack was preceded in death by his father in 2007, his brother, Daniel, in 2008, and his mother in 2022.

Jack had many hobbies and interests, including woodworking, golf, Coca-Cola, and NASA (not necessarily in that order). But it was his love of hockey that lead him to becoming an official with the NHL from 2002-2016 via the Columbus Blue Jackets. This includes being chosen to officiate at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic games and the 2015 NHL All Star game.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on February 19, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Paul the Apostle Church, 313 N. State Street in Westerville, Ohio, with Father Daniel Olvera officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the family towards a more lasting memorial is suggested.

Condolences

Melanie Prins - Feb 12, 2024

Dear Carol and Family - my deepest sympathies to you in the loss of Jack. I have fond memories of many great times growing up with Jack and his wonderful advice to me during my early teens. While life always takes us our separate ways, I often thought of Jack and his family. It was always good seeing him when we were able. May you find comfort and peace in the days ahead. My love to you - Cousin Melanie (Lynn) Prins
