Mr. Wilson was our janitor at Longfellow elementary when I was there from 1st through 6th grade. We loved him. In 2nd grade, my friends and I picked all the dandelions we could in the schoolyard and spread them out on his desk. We were sure he would love them! He was such a nice man. I still remember him after all these years. I hope that memories like these will help lessen the sadness during this difficult time. Prayers for his family.

It was my pleasure to meet Herbie 14 years ago, we played in two golf leagues during that time. He was a pleasure to know, always upbeat and and full of life. I'd ask him every time we'd meet, "How are you Herbie?". His reply rarely varied from "Fine, I'm just fine!". I will always remember him as the great person he was and miss him.

To the entire Wilson family, I am sorry for your loss. He always came out on the basketball court while we were practicing and shot half-court shots. He was a great man and will be sorely missed.

Herb was the janitor at Longfellow elementary school, which I attended in the 60's. He bought us bats , balls and I think a glove or 2 so that we could play baseball during lunch break and recess. Occasionally he would play with us. That small act of kindness that I remember all of these years later, is testament to the type of person Herb was.

SFC Gregory S Boatwright - May 14, 2024
