H. Lucinda Shurelds, of Westerville, OH, peacefully passed away on 3/24/2025 at the age of 71. Cindy was a kind and passionate women who touched the lives of many with her warmth and generosity.
Born on 9/24/1953 in Gallipolis, OH, Cindy was the child of Charles L. Stanley and H. Mildred Pealer. Cindy is survived by her children Jeremy (Anna) Hubbell, Dana "DJ" (Jaclyn) Shurelds, and Savannah (Jimmy) Erwin; her grandchildren Aidan, Harper, Parker and Emma; and her brother Charles "Chuck" Stanley.
Cindy was a graduate of Bluffton College where she earned her degree in Education and later, earned her Master's Degree from Mount Vernon Nazarene University. She worked as a teacher for 37 years in the cities of Ada, Lima, and Delaware, OH with most of her career teaching Science at the Delaware Area Career Center.
Cindy was a member of the Blendon Township Senior Center and was dedicated to God and the church. She always volunteered in community programs, local pen pal programs, and had a very special place in her heart for animal rescue. Cindy enjoyed wood craving, sunning at the pool or beach, and expressing herself through arts and crafts.
Throughout her life Cindy had a love for animals of all shapes and sizes. Upon retirement from teaching, she even created her own pet toy and snack business. Although she enjoyed her hobbies and being involved in her church and social organizations, Cindy found her true passion in being "Gammy" to her grandchildren. She was a devoted mother to her three children and a beloved grandmother to her four grandchildren.
A memorial visitation will be held at Moreland Funeral Home at 55 E. Schrock Ave. in Westerville, OH on Tuesday April 8, 2025 between 5pm and 7pm. Cindy wished to be cremated before being interred with her mother at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
Cindy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She loved hard and cared deeply about others. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and compassion. She truly was a stranger to no one.

I always looked forward to Ms. Shurelds class while attending Delaware JVS in the early '90s. She always had a special charisma and a smile and laugh I will always remember. Sending heartfelt condolences to all who had the chance to know her. God bless and keep you.

I am so grateful I got the chance to be Ms. Shurelds student right before she retired. She was a wonderful lady and a close family friend who also taught my siblings and cousins. My heart goes out to the family

Our condolences to your family- prayers over you all during this time of mourning. I’m certain it is of absolutely no surprise- we both greatly enjoyed your class! While you were a phenomenal teacher- your character and the way loved your students/ how you made everyone of them feel valued was such a blessing! I don’t know anyone who doesn’t brighten up when the memories of you as a teacher come up! You were someone who took genuine interest in those around you!
