Gordon Lee Shuff, 90, of Lock, passed away Monday April 4, 2011 at Country Club Retirement Campus in Mt. Vernon. Born April 21, 1920 in Hartford Township to the late Russell & Vera (Dove) Shuff. Gordon made his home with Lewis & Bessie (Shuff) Hawkins from age 12 until his marriage. Survived by loving wife of 70 years, Marjorie (Myers) Shuff. Children; Bill (Judy) Shuff and
Mike (Sharon) Shuff of Centerburg, Karen (Richard) Linkous of South Carolina. 8 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 7 step-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Gordon was preceded in death by sister Kathleen and brothers Bill, Ed (Bud) and Dick. Graduate and valedictorian of Croton High School in 1938. Charter member of Centerburg Conservation Club. Member of Lock Church since age 12 and served in the capacity of Treasurer for many years and also served as Sunday School Superintendent. Gordon was a lifelong farmer, retired Rural Mail Carrier for 28 years at the Centerburg Post Office, employed by Chapman Poultry for many years and owned and operated the Lock General Store with his wife Marjorie for 11 years.
Also a member of the Milford Grange and held many offices during his 75 year membership and also member of the Rural Mail Carriers Organization. Gordon was a gentle and kind man who always had the time to help his neighbors, friends and family. Friends may call at the JOHNSON-MELICK-MORELAND FUNERAL HOME 49 West Church Street Centerburg, Thursday 4-7 p.m. where service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday April 8, 2001. Roger Crego, Minister. Interment Lock Cemetery.
