Gerrit "Gary" Pyke, age 75, of Westerville Ohio passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Thursday, April 11, 2024 after a 6-month battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara (Neyhart) Pyke, children Gerrit (Mindy) Pyke of Westerville, Matthew (Whitney) Pyke of Westerville, and D'Ann (Dane) Conley of Lewis Center. He was lovingly known as Poppie by his eight grandchildren: Ella, Natalie, Talya, Aspyn, Payton, Cannon, Theoryn & Raelyn. He is also survived by his brother David (Dorothy) Pyke of Huston, TX. and many Brother & Sister in laws, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Anita Ginther and Ruth Reid.
Gary was born on August 29, 1948 in Owosso, MI to the late David ; Helen Pyke. He graduated from Owosso High School in 1966, joined the Air Force in 1970, and graduated from Otterbein College in 1996. He worked at Mitchell Energy and OPERS in Columbus, OH. He retired from OPERS in December 2014.
Gary was an avid golfer and was a member of NorthStar Country Club in Sunbury, OH for over 10 years. A friend to all that met him, Gary was known for his sense of humor, love of life (and Michigan football), funny stories, and a contagious laugh and smile.
We would like to thank Doctor Roychowdhury, Michelle Wing, Emily Klanac and the entire staff at the Ohio State University James Morehouse Hospital for their care throughout the past several months.
Calling hours will be on May 10th from 9:00-11:00am immediately followed by a funeral mass at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Sunbury, OH. A celebration of life will be held at NorthStar Country Club later that afternoon.

So sorry to hear of Gary’s passing. He was such a good friend of John’s when they were growing up on Hickory St. I enjoyed renewing friendships at the reunions. May you have strength and love from family and friends at this time. Joy Archer
