Geneva Higgins Cornell, age 90, longtime resident of Westerville and Columbus. Born Sept. 8, 1922 in Lawrence County, Ohio, passed away Friday March 15, 2013 at St. Ann’s Hospital. Graduated from Westerville High School, Class of 1940. Member of The Church of Messiah United Methodist since 1948, Hanby House, Still Going Strong and Westerville Senior Center. Worked at Kilgore’s during World War II. Active in P.T.A.’s and home room mother, past treasurer of League of Women Voters of Westerville and Circle at Church of Messiah. Welcome Wagon Hostess for 11 years, retired from Westerville City Schools and as Activity Director for Sharon Woods Senior Village for several years. Preceded in death by husband of 62 years, Holland (Hod) Cornell; daughter Patricia A. Cornell Morgan; parents, Orville, Sr. and Marie Hamilton Higgins; sisters and brothers-in-law; Juanita & Edward Bennett, Verneva & Howard Hoffman and brother, Orville Higgins, Jr. Survived by children, Rose (Dwight) Horch of Medford, NJ, Frederick (Maria) Cornell of Bradenton, FL and Richard (Dona) Cornell of Converse, TX; son-in-law, Michael (Becky) Morgan of Marysville, OH; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Shirley Higgins of Columbus, OH and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the MORELAND FUNERAL HOME 55 East Schrock Road Westerville, 4-7 p.m. Monday where service will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday March 19, 2013. Rev. Jim Wilson officiating. Interment Blendon Central Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contibutions may be made to Church of the Messiah United Methodist Church, 51 N. State Street, Westerville, OH 43081.
