Frank Eldon Sowers was born April 23, 1952 to Lawrence and Ruth (Strider) Sowers in Columbus Ohio and passed away September 19, 2022 from metastatic bladder cancer. Frank graduated from Columbus Brookhaven High School in 1971, was an Eagle Boy Scout and alumni of the All-Ohio State Fair Youth Choir and European Tour Choir. Frank remained close with his schoolmates and enjoyed coordinating annual alumni gatherings for his fellow Bearcats. He shared weekly meals with several of them who also provided meals, friendship and support to Frank and his sister during his illness. He was a lifelong OSU Buckeye fan and attended over 250 football games with his best friend and bonus brother Tom Pete Peterfish. Following his retirement from a career in the printing industry, Franks passion was traveling and experiencing the destinations history, food, music and art scenes. Many of these trips were made in his treasured 6 speed SS1 Chevy Camaro often with the convertible top down enjoying the ride. Besides his parents, Frank is preceded in death by his sister, Mary. He is survived by sister, Connie (Bob) Kotula; nieces, Sarah (Jason) Luthy, Angie Sowers, and Bethany (Bobby) Karl; grandnieces, Samantha Chitwood, Mara Luthy, and Gemma Karl; grandnephews, Theodore Luthy and Felix Karl, aunts and uncle, Evelyn Johnson, Doris Strider, Flora Toots (Jim) Davis, and Nancy Strider along with many cousins and friends. A special thank you to Brookdale Hospice of Columbus and Laurels of Norworth for their care and compassion. Friends may call at the Moreland Funeral Home, 55 E. Schrock Road, Westerville, Friday, September 30th from 6-8 p.m. where service will be held Saturday, October 1st at 10 a.m.. Interment Flint Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Frank requests donations be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation (wish.org) and also call a friend or someone you love and take them out to lunch and share your story.

To ThenSowers Family: Frank is someone who would be one of the first ones I would always want to say “hello” to at some of the summer school all/classes reunions I attended from Brookhaven grad class of “1980”. He was kind, gentle, caring, loving, and would always ask me how am I doing. Hem would always have an emoji on my timeline while I was vacationing by myself and enjoyed all my pictures just like I did the same when he enjoyed himself out somewhere on the road away from Ohio. I wished I was able to make it to his Funeral Service but had to work. I was thinking about Frank at the time when all his friends and family gathered together to say goodbye to him. Yes, I would have been dressed in OSU colors because I’m a fan also. Frank has the best seat in the House in Coach Woody Hayes room full of those fans/players who preceded Frank. He will missed by a lot of “Bearcat” friends every future Summer get together but we know he will be looking down smiling at us while watching all the fun we are having. I bet he is already putting together our school reunions in Heaven and lots of great laughs and conversations to go with it. He will be missed but never forgotten. Someday I’ll be joining up with Frank and we can start up again where we left off here on Earth. I want to end this by saying, “Once a Bearcat, always a Bearcat.”

To the family of my dear, dear friend Frank Sowers I want to extend my deepest condolences and my sincere sadness for his passing. We all will miss him, but celebrate his extraordinary life. I will miss his larger than life experiences - his love of travel, adventures, cool friends, art excursions and performances. And most of all I will miss his openness, his acceptance, his joy of spending genuine time and being present with others one on one. He had that ability of BEING with a person and putting one at ease and making one feel special and valuable. Frank had so many friends and he was so very loved. Frank and I met in the 1970-71 All-Ohio State Fair Youth Choir. Our friendship continued over all these 50 odd years. Saying goodbye was not in our vocabulary….we just said ”See you soon.” Thank you, Connie and family, for sharing him. . He will be FOREVER my friend. Blessings and Love to you.

I’ve known Frank for over 20 years when he and I started the Brookhaven and Northland All-Classes Reunions one year and one week apart, unbeknownst to the other. Frank was a natural fit for pulling people together with his outgoing and infectious personality. Over the years we would trade ideas on how to make our reunions better and to promote the other’s. He was always supportive and would lend an ear to anyone who needed it. I promised him that I will continue to promote that last Saturday in July Brookhaven Reunion. Ohio State even randomly seated us together one year during the football games. We were usually a row or two apart after that. So much fun cheering with him. We last talked in August with plans for me to bring him another supply of my Barbacoa in September, which unfortunately never happened. Frank was a good man, who selflessly helped others. I will miss my reunion partner but will always celebrate him the Last Saturday in July (BHS) and First Saturday in August (NHS). Godspeed my friend. - Ric Johnson NHS ‘71

Frank aka Mr. Bearcat, You were such a character! From the time I remember you teasing us statisticians at the home track meets and giving some of us a boost with your cleats when you were running by us and we were busy… we could count on your giggle as you ran on! Thank you for never forgetting about all the friends you made along your life journey. I loved seeing Mt. Rushmore covered in snow, not to mention the snowplow drifts on the side of your car. I love following you on Facebook, visiting other Bearcats who were living on the West Coast, The Plains, East Coat and other Midwest locations outside of 4077 Karl Road. I enjoyed our Whit talks. Say hello for me when you seen him. Frank, you will always been one in a million, I will miss you until we meet again. Prayers for your family and other friends who enjoyed your friendship over the years. Bye Frank Sowers, I know God is holding you in his hand.

Frank Sowers- Such a Sweetie! When I went to hug him at our recent BHS’71 Reunion and give him a kiss on the cheek he smiled and said “On the lips!” I did and we chatted briefly as a crowd of our friends were gathering to have their moments with Frank💕He was one of Jim’s Ushers in our wedding in 1973 and they were on the Track Team together. Now, they’re together again and planning our big Heavenly Reunion🙏💖 Until we meet again…Love,Susie
