Frances B. Beck

Frances Larcomb Beck of Westerville and Put-in-Bay, OH died peacefully on August 5. Fran was born on November 24, 1930 to John and Margaret Larcomb in Columbus. She was a 1948 graduate of Columbus North High School and the Ohio State University, where she earned a BA in 1952. Fran was an elementary school teacher in the 1950s and 1960s, with her last tenure at Emerson Elementary in Westerville. Fran stepped away from teaching when she married Kenneth Beck in 1969, and they enjoyed 48 years together until Ken's passing in 2017. Fran loved her time at Put-in-Bay and summered on the island every year for over 70 years. She was a proud member of the Put-in-Bay Yacht Club, the OWLs, the BNLs and various other island institutions. Fran enjoyed lunching at the Goat, cocktails and card games on her porch, and Trivial Pursuit and mahjong games, and she very much valued her close friendships with other summer residents and islanders. She attended St. Paul Episcopal Church on Put-in-Bay during the summer months and was a member of Church of the Master United Methodist in Westerville. Fran was survived by sons, John (Elizabeth) Burley of Alexandria, VA, Norman (Elizabeth) Beck of Chicago, IL, and Joseph (Maria) Beck of Silver Spring, MD; and grandchildren, Sarah, Samantha, Katherine, Kenneth and Leda; nephew, David (Karen) Petree of Clintonville, OH. Fran was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Larcomb. Private graveside service will be held at Blendon Central Cemetery, Saturday, August 20, 2022, Pastor Char Schultz, officiating.
