Evelyn Schmidt 93 yrs young, was called to Heaven on Sunday September 28, 2025. She was reunited with her Loving Husband Ceylon "Cy" Schmidt and many more who welcomed her into Heaven.
Evelyn was Born in Thorp, Wisconsin on January 28th, 1932, and raised on a dairy farm by Victoria Walteriatis. She had 2 brothers, Alvin and Lawarence and one sister, Theresa. She moved to Chicago when she was a teenager on a double dare and worked 2 shifts every day. She loved to dance and would dance the night away at the Mile A Way Dance Hall in Thorp for the Sunrise Dances.
Evelyn met Ceylon "Cy" ( her mother's milk delivery man) and fell in love and got married on July 12, 1955, and so started a love story with many adventures. They had 8 kids and raised a 9th as her own. She enjoyed young people and was always laughing at their shenanigans. She loved to cook, garden, and dote on her family and friends. Everyone loved her made from scratch; apple pies, cinnamon strips, pink applesauce, homemade grape jelly, and rhubarb strawberry. She would make dinners for the whole family, and we would gather together at the Grange Hall to eat and celebrate special moments and occasions. In later years, she loved to sit in the sunshine and watch her hummingbirds.
She will be missed by many but know she is looking down and smiling and watching over us all.
She is survived by her children: Susan, Wayne, James (Andree), Patricia Rabaduex (Damon), and Harriet Bailey (Frank), Jennifer Schmidt (Brett Hatfield), daughter in law; Kitty (Scott); grandchildren; Amy (Tim) Kerri, Heather (Chuck), Amber (Mike), Joshua, Carla (Jerry), Chistina (LJ), Thomas,(Jenna), Scott Jr. (Alisha), Victorea, Vallery, James II (Candice), Kaelan (Andy), Jamie(Sean), Jacob (Krystina), Melinda(Tristan) and Damon III; great grandchildren; Alexander, Keisha, Anthony, Haley, Alexis, Timmy, Titan, Daniel, Blake, Wesley,Tristan, Keller, Conner, Ashtyn, Mathew, Morgan, Scott III-Tre Maddison-Maddy, Christopher, Nickolas, Grace, James III, Lily and one great great grandchild; Delaney. She was preceded in death by husband, Ceylon "Cy" (2009) her sons, Thomas (1976), Edwin (2008) and Scott (2024); brothers, Alvin Graski, Lawarence Walteriatis and granddaughter Baby, Aiyanna.
Evelyn was a Cancer Survivor, and family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers. https://www.cancer.org/
Services for Evelyn will be Saturday October 4th, 2025, at Moreland Funeral Home in Westerville, Ohio. Visiting Hours 8:30am to 10am with service to follow at 10 am. Interment Fancher Cemetery.
