Esther Mapes, age 87, died February 1, 2016 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. She was a resident of Centerburg for 55 years. She was born in Knox County near Bladensburg on June 25, 1928 to E. Donald and Ruth Noffsinger. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, two sisters, an infant son and her grandson Joshua Mapes. She was a member of the Centerburg United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, Manila and Knox Chapters and the Rainbow Bowling League. She served her community as an election judge, a Red Cross blood bank donor and volunteer, and was a passionate supporter of Centerburg Schools. She is survived by her son, Geoffrey of Lakeville, Minnesota; daughter Becky and son-in-law Ed of Eagan, Minnesota and granddaughter Jacqueline Evans of Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Family and friends may call at the JOHNSON-MELICK-MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 49 West Church Street, Centerburg, Monday, March 7, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday March 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Centerburg United Methodist Church.
