Elmer Jedd “Jedd” Whalen Jr., of Westerville, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 13, 2026, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born on November 29th, 1944 to Elmer Jedd Whalen and Geraldine Spence Whalen. He is survived by his sister, Margaret (Tom) Dahl of Venice, FL; his sons, Matthew Whalen of Pleasant Twp and Ryan (Stephanie) Whalen of Galena; his daughters, Stephanie (Mike) Low of Young Harris, GA and Sarah (Shawn) Hull of Ostrander; his grandchildren, Erika, Keara, Nate, Zach, Ethan, Elijah, Luke, Meredith, and Little Betsy; and his great-grandchildren, Jude, Adalee, and Henley. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years of marriage who he cherished, Betsy Ellen Ross Whalen, and his brother, James Whalen.

To his family, Jedd was a steady source of wisdom, guidance, and strength. He led by example, offering thoughtful advice, quiet encouragement, and a deep sense of responsibility that helped shape the lives of his children as they grew. They were incredibly blessed to have him as a father, friend, peacemaker, provider, and protector. Above all else, he was devoted to his family and was always there to help in any way he could. His family meant everything to him, and he meant everything to them.

Jedd loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, taking many trips to northern Canada over his lifetime. He even took his wife, Betsy, there on their honeymoon, an idea she was not initially impressed with, but she soon fell in love with Canada as well, and the two of them returned together for many trips throughout their marriage. After retirement, he became an avid golfer and an active member of the Waterford community in Venice, Florida, where he made many close friends.

Professionally, Jedd worked for the accounting firm his father founded (Whalen & Company) over 70 years ago and later became the first founding partner alongside his brother, Jim. He also served as a board member for the Ronald McDonald House when it was first formed and was an active member of the Westerville Rotary Club.

Family and friends may call at the MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 E. Schrock Road, Westerville, on February 21, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, followed by a service at 4:00 pm. A celebration of life will follow immediately afterwards at the offices of Whalen & Company, 655 Metro Place South, Suite 450, Dublin, Ohio 43017.
