I just wanted to take a moment and send condolences to you all at Dustin’s passing. It’s been years since I’ve seen any of the boys on the pool deck. I remember them as they were back then and always find fond memories of your family. It truly looks like Dustin lived an active life of helping others so I’m sure the thoughts and prayers of many people are with you all now… as are mine.

Katy Pena - Jan 8, 2016

My deepest condolences to Ida and the Powers family. My heart is broken but at least I had the great opportunity of working with Dustin in the same office for about a year….how delightful!
Amazing memories that I will treasure for the rest of my days.

Eursula R. West - Jan 8, 2016

To the Powers Family:
My heart and soul was saddened and shocked to hear the passing of Dustin on New Year’s Day. I just could not believe it. I worked with Dustin at Hospira in Rocky Mount, NC. We shared similar loves like singing, zoology major (mine from NCSU), Michael Jackson and the love of people. It was because of Dustin that I attended the Master Chorale concerts and donate to the North Carolina Master Chorale fundraising efforts. Dustin was a special gift to us all and will be greatly missed. He was truly a singing angel, full of sunshine and possessed a golden spirit. My heart goes out to Ida his wife and the family. A sudden loss like this shocks all of us. I pray and hope that God continues to keep you and strengthen you each and every day. Know that Dustin was loved and he gave love just as much. May the Lord provide comfort to you and the memories of Dustin keep him alive and smile upon you.

When I heard that Dustin passed I became sad because he was someone that I mentored on my 1st project. As I sat for a few minutes reflecting on him I immediately placed a smile on my face because he was such a nice person and loved to sing. I have prayed that God gives his wife the strength that she needs during this time.

Austin Thomas - Jan 7, 2016

Dear Ida, Family and Friends-
I had the pleasure of working with Dustin since coming to Grifols in June 2015 and enamored by his grace ever since. How appropriate it was to spend New Year’s Eve morning and afternoon with him, volunteering at the Raleigh Rescue Mission and afterwards talking “beer” at Raleigh Times. Since New Year’s Day my life has been in a perpetual state of reflection. The Grifols team lost one of the most genuine people I’ve ever met. His mere presence made you want to be a better person. His smile contagious. His outlook refreshing. Such a young and exemplary man taken too soon. His death has been a constant reminder that today, tomorrow, the next five minutes, are never promised, so don’t hold back. Do what you want, say what you feel and mean what you say. Never regret. God Bless you all. With my deepest sympathy, Austin.

Donna Simmons - Jan 6, 2016

Dustin and I first met via a phone call in 2012 when Hospira was expanding their complaints investigation department. He convinced me that he was absolutely ready to move from Ohio to North Carolina and so a job offer was made and he accepted. Lucky us! Dustin was a bright, innovative, committed employee. He also was also a person who was so much fun to have around. I remember when we all had signed up to walking 10,000 plus steps a day. He and Steve created some very unique ways to attain their daily step goal. I also remember when he was planning to propose to Ida – again, there was an abundance of creativity and uniqueness with each and every one of his ideas. I’m sure he didn’t use all of them.
I am so very, very sad and sorry for the loss Dustin’s family has experienced. He was a young man that had so much to offer this old world of ours. We all can be grateful that we shared a few moments of time with him. I have thought about him often since our paths have gone different directions but never more so than the last few days.

Cassandra Johnson - Jan 6, 2016

Ida & Family,
I am so very sorry for your loss. I was shocked and so saddened when I heard the news. Dustin was truly a beautiful soul and I so enjoyed working with him at Salix. He had a unique gift of bringing sunshine to all he came into contact with. I always enjoyed his stories of his weekend adventures, and he always spoke with such love about you, Ida. You and all his family will be in my prayers and I hope that you can feel the love, hugs, and thoughts that are being sent your way.
Love,
Allison

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked at Hospira with Dustin and I helped him with ideas for his wedding proposal lol..Dustin was a cheerful and high spirited person and i cant believe he has been taken away from your family so early. But our time on this is never promised and I know he is singing acapella with the angels. I am praying for peace and hope for your family during this devastating event.
