After fighting a nine year battle with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), Donald E. Manly, III, age 63, of Westerville, Ohio passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 in a home full of love surrounded by love. Don was born in Amherst Ohio December 11, 1950 to parents, Janice Delores and Donald E. Manly, Jr.. He graduated from Otterbein College and received his Masters Degree from Ashland University. While at Otterbein, Don was a four year starter on the basketball team. Following his playing career, he spent several years as an Assistant Coach for the Cardinals. After graduating, Don enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and was honorably discharged after six years of service. He was an educator for 35 years at Walnut Springs and Genoa Middle Schools. As a coach for both of his boys baseball teams, Don mentored many young baseball players and coached at Westerville North. Nothing gave Don greater pleasure than watching his son’s play soccer and baseball. Preceded in death by his mother, Janice, and is survived by his wife of 40 years, Cathy; sons, Jeremy (Emily) and Jason (Jessica); father, Donald E. Manly, Jr.; brother Matt (Denise); loving Papa to Lexi, Quin, Mia and Reagan. Friends may visit at the MORELAND FUNERAL HOME 55 East Schrock Road, Westerville on Wednesday, June 18th from 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, June 19th at Central College Presbyterian Church 975 S. Sunbury Road, Westerville, with Rev Malcolm Davis officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Western Michigan University MSA Research Fund 3425 Wood Hall, Kalamazoo, MI 49008-5410, or online at msaawareness.org .
