It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis Alan Lyman, 83, of Blacklick, Ohio. He was born on October 12, 1941, in Springfield, Ohio and died on April 21, 2025, in Gahanna, Ohio. For four years he served his country in the United States Air Force.
Denny's 32 year long career as a firefighter began with Whitehall Fire Department. He then joined Columbus Fire and earned the rank of lieutenant. Besides displaying bravery on the fire line, Denny loved serving His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at Central College Presbyterian Church in the following capacities: Board of Deacons, usher, greeter, food pantry, friendly visitor and hospitality committee. Additionally, Denny could be seen volunteering at LifeCare Alliance Senior Dining Room weekly. He was a member of 4-Unit where he cherished camaraderie with fellow retired firefighters and firehouse cooking. Denny was a keen golfer whose heart belonged on the greens.
Denny is survived by his wife, Dori; daughter, Denise (John) Mathias; sons, Robert and Brian; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Noah, Jessica, Darian and Dakota; great-grandchildren, Seth, Sophie, Jaxson and sisters, Diana Tagg and Peggy Conley. Preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Lyman and former spouse, Barbara.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 3rd at Central College Presbyterian Church 975 South Sunbury Road, Westerville, OH 43081. The service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:30 a.m. A private family inurnment will follow at Central College Church Columbarium.
