David Ray Simmerman passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 30th, 2024. Born in Berry, Ky. on Oct. 23,1933 to Pearl and Orin Simmerman He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Jay, Orin, Verna, Maggie, Clyde, Bobby and Mary Ester. He attended and graduated from Ashland High School in 1954.

David was a star athlete in high school playing basketball, football and running track for the Ashland Tomcats. He met and eloped with his high school sweetheart Marlene Marie Barney on March 14, 1953. They have 4 children, David (Kay) Simmerman, Cathy (Chuck) Etheridge, Michael (Tami) Simmerman and Bobby (Bridgett) Simmerman. He leaves behind 1 brother, Gerald Simmerman of Fort Myers Florida; 9 grandchildren, Mandy, Jennifer, Brad, Natalie, Josh, Stephanie, Jake, Andrew and Alyssa; 8 great- grandchildren, Austin, Cooper, Quentin, Mavis, Olivia, Luca, Benny and Vivienne.

David grew up in a large musical family and loved listening to all kinds of music in his later years. He had a beautiful voice and sang in the choir at the South Point United Methodist Church where his wife played the piano. He had a strong faith in Jesus and belonged to The Church of the Messiah in Westerville, Ohio.

David was an electrician and a member of the the I.B.E.W. Local Union in Huntington, W.Va. until he retired in 1993. He and Marlene then moved to Dublin, Ohio to be closer to their children and their growing families.

He enjoyed bowling, golfing and exercised well into his 80's, riding his bike and walking on his treadmill. From the oldest Mandy to the youngest Alyssa he enjoyed watching all the grandchildren play sports, sing in choirs and act in plays. He loved good food especially cauliflower with homemade cheese sauce, a good steak, blueberry cobbler and any and all soups! He also enjoyed gardening and had a large garden until retirement.

He loved watching sports with the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team and the Ohio State Buckeyes football teams being his favorites. He also really loved watching the 2024 Olympics this past summer.

We have been blessed and appreciate all the help and love shown to him from Capital City Hospice with a shoutout to RN Melissa and also The Key Home Healthcare team. All were angels in disguise and made his life and his passing easier for us all.
