Darelle Schaffner Carpenter May 30, 1933- September 9, 2024

(Frances) Darelle Schaffner Carpenter, 91, of Columbus, Ohio passed away at home on September 9th. She lives on through her son, Charles Leonard (wife Jennifer) Carpenter, daughter, Deidre (husband David Bonnell) Carpenter, and four very loved grandchildren, Alyson, Grant, Heath and Lee Bonnell.

She was preceded in death by parents Charles Darrell and Frances (Parrish) Schaffner.

Darelle was a life-long member of Minerva Park United Methodist Church. She enjoyed participating in many church activities from Jr. Church teacher to choir member to member of the church board. She was involved in many of the womens groups especially the Lydia Circle.

Darelle graduated from Westerville High School in 1951. She had an active social life in school including marching band, clarinet quartet, choir and drama club. Many friends from school remained friends for life.

Following high school graduation she began working for Nationwide Insurance. She enjoyed her work and the many friends she made there. She was a member of the Nationaires choir for many years, even after retiring. Darelle took a break from work in 1959 to raise her children but returned to the work force when they were older.

After retirement she stayed busy with the Nationwide Senior Associates where she attended monthly meetings, took many vacations with the group and volunteered on many committees even severing as president of group for a time.

Darelle was also a very active member and president of three doll clubs; Olentangy Valley Doll Club, Ohio Valley Doll Club, and The Guild of Ohio Doll Makers. She attended meetings conventions, and sales for these groups. She participated in many areas teaching classes, learning about new things, and photographing everything. Darelle loved making clothes and hats for her many dolls exhibiting her talents for sewing, crochet, and embroidery.

Darelle kept active throughout her retirement attending lunch bunch with friends from high school. Visiting her many family members and friends is what she enjoyed most. Her social calendar was always full and she loved it that way.

The visitation will be held in her honor at the Moreland Funeral Home, 55 E. Schrock Road, Westerville on Friday, September 20, 2024 from 11 am to 1 pm. followed by a service at 1 p.m. Interment Glen Rest Memorial Estates.

I was a member of the Nationaires choir for numerous years that Darelle sang as a "retiree". I always enjoyed our conversations, and hearing about how Nationwide many years before I started in the 90s. Many prayers for her family.
