MORTINGER

Reverend Daniel W. Mortinger, age 81, passed away on April 6, 2016. Dan was born on November 11, 1934 to Russell and Hazel Mortinger of Detroit, Michigan. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. In his youth, Dan worked jobs on freighters on the Great Lakes to earn money for college and retained a life-long interest in the big ships on the Great Lakes. As an adult, Dan was a compassionate and dynamic preacher of the Gospel for over 40 years. Dan graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI and from Trinity Seminary in Bexley, Ohio. Dan also attended Capital University in Bexley where he met his wife, Gloria. He served the Lutheran Church ALC for 25 years including at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Westerville. Dan later served with the Presbyterian Church USA as an Intentional Interim for eighteen years where he ministered to congregations in transition and in need. Dan honorably retired in 2004. Dan leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Gloria, and two sons Stephen (Ali) of Ridgefield, Connecticut and Paul (Beth) of Westerville, Ohio, and two grandsons, Samuel and Matthew also of Ridgefield, Connecticut. Dan is also survived by an extended loving family; brothers-in-law and sisters- in-law Edward (Sylvia) Hagenlocker, Harry (Bonnie) Burnside, Sara Burnside, Mike (Cindy) Klieber and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and dear friends. A visitation will be held at MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 E. Schrock Road, Westerville, Sunday April 10, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. Services will be held at All Saints Lutheran Church, 6770 North High Street, Worthington, Ohio on Monday April 11, 2016 beginning with a visitation at 10 a.m. with the service to follow at 11 a.m., Reverend Mike Weaver and Reverend Mark Gauen will serve as officiants. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. on Monday April 11th at Oakdale Cemetery located at 1290 W Fifth St. in Marysville, Ohio with Reverend Denny Hager officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Westerville Area Resource Ministry (WARM), which Dan helped to establish in order to provide comfort to those in need in our community, The Faith Mission of Columbus, or the church of your choice.
