My condolences to the Hartsough family. So many great memories of Chad. From playing soccer against his wolf pack then soccer together at Westerville south. and even at Columbus State for one year. The boys from Westerville South and North that played at Columbus State, we all skipped practice one day because we didn’t want to run. Then we drove to the middle of know where and TP’d the coaches house. Yep that’s the trouble we got into. I remember many visits to the old hood to hang with Chad, Brad and Matt during highschool. Chad you will be missed. Good memories.

I'm very saddened to hear of Chad's passing. To his family, may I extend my sincerest condolences. I've enjoyed reading the heartfelt things others have said about this wonderful person whom we were all fortunate to meet at some point. I had the privilege and blessing of working with Chad at two different places: The Westerville Service Department & PAW Excavation. Chad was such a hard worker and always had the best attitude. At WSD, it didn't matter if we were forming or finishing concrete, laying historic street bricks or doing fall leaf cleanup, it was always better with Chad on the crew. He was the kind of teammate you always wanted around. He was so tough too. He could hang in there in the most brutal of conditions, like the winter of '99-'00 when at PAW he worked in winter temperatures below zero with snow up to his knees to lay electrical conduit. At the same time, he had such a caring, sensitive spirit. It made him so enjoyable and easy to talk with. He loved people and he loved his dog. He was highly skilled too. At PAW, he worked his way up to equipment operator on one of the BIG excavators. His finesse with that huge equipment was invaluable on a pipe laying job we were on once. His smile and laughter would daily lift the spirits of the people he worked with, including my own. I'm so thankful for him. He was a joy. The Lord gave me a gift to have had the opportunity to know Chad in this world. Thank you to his parents for raising such a great son. I'll treasure the memories I have of him and look forward to seeing him again someday.

Dear Hartsoughs, Bob and I were your "backyard neighbors until about 5 years ago. Chad was always a delight. He was very respectful and would stop for a visit if we were outside. I know he has suffered a lot over a long period of time. Now he is at peace. My prayers are with you. I wish you all God's peace.

Matt Neuens - Oct 4, 2023

I had the honor of playing on my very first ever select soccer team with Chad back in 1985. Chad and I were great friends all through middle school, then went to rival high schools, then were reunited playing soccer together again on Columbus State’s first ever team back in 1992. Chad was one of a kind. Funny as hell, a great athlete, witty, and a great friend. Although it’s been years since I’ve seen Chad, he’ll always be a part of some of my great childhood and college memories. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. I’m so very sorry.

There are no words to ease your pain, but I would love to leave you with some happiness ♥️ I first met Chad when we moved into the neighborhood in the 70’s! I will never forget the first time he came to our door! He was small frame snot not one bit shy. Quite the opposite. He was very straightforward and wanted to come in😁Afterward he became great buddies with Matt and Brad! He decided to call me Mrs. V. Because my name was too big! The three musketeers did everything together. They rode their banana seat bikes everywhere. The walked to school together, they ate lunch together, they really were best friends ♥️ One summer day the decided to put my tent up in the back yard. They placed it right outside my bedroom window. They said if I got scared in the night, Al I had to do was yell and the could run in and save me. Chad brought so many snacks they could have camped for a week😁They decided to let my dog sleep in the tent to warn them if anyone got close 😁After everyone was settled and all lights were out and ate most of their snacks, they began talking boy stuff and bragging to each other and I had to put my face in my pillow because I was laughing so hard😂I just remember thanking God for such a wonderful for these Three Musketeers who invaded my house with so much joy💙💙💙💙 I LOVE YOU CHAD💙💙Thanks for all the wonderful memories 💙💙💙💙💙

Man buddy..this was a shocker. I know we haven't seen or talked in a long time but, out of all my childhood memories you were always apart of the best ones. From baseball in your backyard to sleepovers in the basement and ping pong in the garage Your mom always made the best lunches too! I'm so grateful for the friendship that we had. You will forever be in our hearts and memories! Rest in heaven buddy..Love you!

Chad was one of a kind. I met him and so many pals at Cherrington, and we bonded over soccer, music, and giving friends bad nicknames. Fond memories include the backyard soccer goal on Leacrest, his faithful pal Baxter, freshman soccer with coaches Jeff and Jerry, trading bootleg rap tapes, and teaching our science class the physics of bending a soccer kick. Polly, Clee, and all of Chad’s family are in my prayers.

Heidi Borah - Oct 3, 2023

I’m so sorry to hear about Chad’s passing. He was a great guy! After we lost my mom back in 2020, he stopped by a couple times to check on my dad which meant so much to him. Sending my love and prayers to the Hartsough family.

Brad Carpenter - Oct 3, 2023

I consider myself so lucky to have had Chad as a friend from when I first met him pulling up to my house on his green machine big wheel wearing Yoda Underoos. When I think of my childhood Chad was always there. From our sandbox days, break dancing phase, and all of teams we played on through the years, and everything else in between. Playing anything and everything from sun up until sun down was what our childhood was all about. I was lucky to have Chad. He was always up for anything. Playing sports together, knowing that Chad would out compete everyone was so fun to see. I always knew Chad wouldn’t be denied. He is special. And I always knew I was lucky to see him grow up. He is missed and loved. ❤️

Tricia Back - Oct 3, 2023
