Celeste Mathews, age 90, of Centerburg died February 6, 2010 at The Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Born January 3, 1920 in St. Matthews, SC, she was the daughter of David and Daisy (Crider) Bozeman. On May 10 ,1941, she married Joseph R. Mathews, who preceded her in death in 1992 and a brother, James Bozeman. She spent most of her life on the Mathews farm outside of Centerburg. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved God, the farm and the community of Centerburg. She will be remembered for her service to others, notes and cards, and homemade cinnamon rolls. She was a member of the Centerburg United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Knox Chapter 236, Order of Eastern Star. She was a past matron of the Manilla Chapter 100, Order of Eastern Star, Past Mother Advisor, Order of the Rainbow for the Girls, and past president and member of other organizations in the community. She was a volunteer for Hospice of Knox County and Social Services Centerburg Inter Church. Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, James (Dick) R. and Carolyn Mathews of London, OH; daughter and son-in-law, Drs. Paul and Nancy Martin of Lexington, OH; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Calvin Bozeman of Groveport, OH and David Bozeman of Deltona, FL.. Calling hours will be Wednesday 4-7 p.m. at Johnson-Melick-Moreland Funeral Home 49 West Church Street, Centerburg, where an Eastern Star service will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. and a funeral service that will celebrate her life will beThursday at 1 p.m., Pastor Vicky Kelley officiating.
